TheSouthAmericanPlatformincludestwomajorgeologicalcomponentswithcommonstructural
roots:theTransbrasilianoLineament(LTB)andtheParanBasin.Importantrelationshipsbetween
thetwocomponentsoccurwithinthenorthwestParanBasinandconcealedbeneathsedimentary
cover.Weintegratedallavailableairbornemagneticandgravitysurveysandgroundbasedgravity
datatoproduceconsistent,digitalmagneticandBougueranomalymaps.Dataprocessingand
modelingtechniquesthenwereusedinordertorevealprincipalcrustalcompartmentsandbasin
basementstructuresatvariousdepths.Threelargemagneticdiscontinuitiesdelineatecrustal
compartmentsintheareawithN30E,N60E,andN70Estrike,fromeasttowest,respectively.
Thesemagneticlineamentsboundregionswithdistinctgravityanomalycharacter.Robust
matchedfilteranalysisappliedtomagneticandgravitydatayieldedimportantdepthestimates:(i)
2.5kmtothetopoftheParanBasinNeoproterozoicbasement(ii)46kmtothetopofasecond
groupofbasementunits(iii)20km,possiblyassociatedwiththeupperlowercrustinterfaceand
(iv)3339and43kmrelatedtocrustalthicknesseswestandsoutheastofamajorN30Etrending
lineament,respectively.The2Djointmodelingofgravityandmagneticdatashedslightonthe
asymmetricgeometryofthebasementbeneaththeParanbasin,withatleastthreehalfgrabens
formedbyLTBreactivatedstructures.Thecentralregionofthestudyareaischaracterizedby
thinnercrustandhighercrustalweakness,whereimportantstructureshavedevelopedinthe
Mesozoic,includingNWtrendingreactivations,linkedtocrustalupliftandevolutionofsmallNE
alignedCretaceousbasins.Importantdepocentersoccurtothenorthandeastofthestudyarea,
withN70EandN30ENSstrike,respectively.
