Reflection

1.

Whydidyouchoosethisunittopic?
Although many children come preschool with knowledge of numbers and counting, many
other children have not developed this knowledge. We encountered these kindofchildrenin
our internship and for these children, weshouldsupplydifferentopportunitiestolearnwords
for numbers to count things and to learn to read and write numbers. Also, the numbers and
counting is a concept which associated with more difficult math concepts like division and
subtraction, fragile. therefore, learning these math concepts is vital for children in early
childhood education. Therefore, we chose this topic. Furthermore, we wanted to give
feedbacks with the help of technological tools but thereisnoprogrambasedonthefeedback

2.

When you are planning your unitandlessonplans, whichoftheASSUREstepsdoyou

thinkyouspendmostofyourtimethinkingabout?Why?
We thought that we spent most of our time thinking about while selecting the materials or

technological tools to create a lesson because finding the most appropriate tool is very
difficultandwehadtofindallcontentsofalltools.
3.

How did you determine the prerequisite skills or knowledge (if any) for your plan?
Whatistherationalebehindthetimeallocation?
When we are planning our unit plan and lesson plans, we had to thought the age

characteristics and interests of children, we chose the age group as 5 years old children and
we specified the activities for these age group. we created a unit plan in four weeks. We
assumed that our children know number sense concept and count rhythmically fromnumber
1 to 20 as entry competencies. after we choose the topic, we separated the concepts into
weeks based on the level of difficulty of concepts. for example, while we are place the
recognizing and reading numbers which is Tombola activity, we place into second week
becausewecreatedabasicactivityforfirstdaywhichisnumbers. Furthermore,duetothe5
age group, we thought that 5 years old children want to play, move and have role play or
improvisator. Therefore, we choose and create our activities based on the enjoyable early
childhoodeducationlessontypes.
4.

Howdidyoudetermineandwriteyourobjectives?
Our audience is 60 months old children. These children can know number sense and count
from 1 to 20 rhythmically and we determined our objectives according to National Early
Childhood Education Program. We had difficulty in determining degree to which skills are

mastered because the topics in early childhood education does not specify a degree formost
ofthetimes.Onthecontrary,theyaregenerallyopenendedstatements.
5.

How did you decide instructional methods, media and materials? Whydidyouchoose
them?
We selected our materials, technologyandmediabasedonthecontentoftheactivities.Inthe

first activity which is numbers storybook, we used Easel.ly to form a storybook because
we wanted to add imagesforstory.Thestorycanbetoldwiththeimagestochildrenwiththe
help of infographic tool. This program is also practical and appropriate to understand the
cycle of the story for children. Also, we used this website in the lab activity. Therefore, we
know how we can use thetoolsoftheprogrambeforeandweusedthistechnologicaltoolfor
this activity. For the second activity, our second activity is Tombola to describe and match
the number to a set for children. Our purpose for this activity is both to teach numbers and
new year. Therefore, we thought that at the starting point of activity, we canexplainwhatis
new year? Which activities can we do in the newyear?Forthisreason, wecreatedaconcept
map in the Popplet program. Also, we wanted that we should show the images to children
into presentation.Therefore,todopresentationisveryusefulinthisprogramandwe choseit.
Our third activity is space shuttle activity. To throw the aerospace, children should count
back from 10 to 1. Also, in this activity, our purpose is to teach what isspaceshuttle, who
uses the space shuttle, where does it go andcountingrhythmicallyfrom10to1.Therefore,
we wanted to use a tool to give information about space shuttle. Therefore, wechosePrezi
program and weformedapresentationtogiveinformationaboutthespaceshuttle.Moreover,
to gain counting soul for children, we created a video to see the all numbers orderly and
throwing aerospace. In the activity, firstly we will show our Prezi presentation and then
children create their own space shuttles and then teacher says that our space shuttles are
ready to throw but are you ready? Then, teacher starts to show the video and while video
continuing, children count. At the end point, the space shuttle is throwing in the video. We
chose Stupeflixmaterialforthisvideo becausethevideoandimagescouldbeuploadedinto
this program. Therefore, we found a video based on aerospace throwing and also images of
numbers and then we placed them into video. We tiedalotofprogramsforthevideobutthe
most appropriate one is Stupeflix for this topic. The fourth activity is oclock. For this
activity, because of using all other tools, we had to use assessment material which is,
Surveymonkey. wechosethistoolbecausegoogleformsprogramisveryclassicandwedid

not enter in the program of Obsurvey. Therefore, we created an assessment material with
thehelpofSurveymonkey.
6.
Whatistheinstructionaltheoryonwhichyourinstructionalactivitiesarebased?Ordo
youuseeclecticapproachforthem?Why?
We thought that our material andlessonplansshouldbaseonSocialdevelopmenttheoryof
Vygotsky because we liked this approach and children should be encouraged and supported
from teacher and technological devices to attain a level of development which is zone of
proximal development for children. therefore, thanks to these technological materials,
childrencandosomethingwhichwasnotdonebychildrenbeforetheactivity.
7.

Howdidyouplantoutilizetheseinstructionalmethods,mediaandmaterials?
Moreover, while utilizing these materials, we thought all processes which are previewing
technology, Media, and Materials, preparing Technology, Media, andMaterials, activeusing
thetechnology,media,andmaterialspriortothelesson,preparingtheenvironment,preparing
the learners and finally providing the learning experience. These are very significantandwe
wanted to explain each of them orderly. knowing and practicing the program for teacher is
starting point for children because teacher should know how this program will be used and
which methods can be used while using this material. Also, using these tools actively and
appropriately for the purpose is important. teacher can use our materials as integrating into
the activity as we mentioned above. Preparing environment and learners are also important.
While showing presentations and visuals, children should sit in a circle to see them
appropriately and actively. For example,whilecountingnumberstothrowaerospace,teacher
can stop the Stupeflix video to count numbers for children orderly, not only seeing video
andnumbersinthevideo.
8.

Howdidyouplanforlearnerparticipation?
Thanks to these tools, we should encourage children to engage mentally while counting and
teaching numbers, to engage in practice of new knowledge or skillswhileteachingnewyear
and space shuttle, to learn with technology and media because we teach the names of tools
and finally to provide performancefeedbackpriortoformalassessment.Wedonotthinkthat
we will not give feedback with the help of technological tools because the programs do not
have any content about feedback. For example, in the tombola activity, we thought that we
can create some materials to show the numbers and match the numbers with tombola cards
for children. Then, we wanted to givefeedbackforchildrenwhileshowingthetruematching

after childrenmatchthenumberwiththeircards.however,we couldnot findanyprogramfor

thispurpose.
9.

How did you plan for evaluation and revision? What is the rationale for choosing the
measurementandevaluationmethods?
We used authentic learning tool which is Surveymonkey for assessment part and wecould

integratethetechnologyintoassessmentpart.
