CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

-orderly movement in a circuit

-exchange nutrients, gases, hormones,
blood, immune system
-regulate BP
SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION
-all parts of the body except lungs LV--RA
PULMONARY CIRCULATION
-RV---pulm trunk---pulm arteries---pulm
veins

b. Internal Carotid Artery

-passing carotid canal
-Basilar Artery
BRANCHES OF EXTERNAL CAROTID
ARTERY
Superior Thyroid-supply thyroid
Facial-ascends to neck crossing
inferior border of mandible up to the
face
Lingual- goes up in sub mandibular
region to tongue
Ascending Pharyngeal entering
pharynx/ post. of tongue/ lateral of
oropharynx
Occipital- back to nape/ back of neck
Posterior Auricular- behind pinna

StAp PaLO
TERMINAL BRANCHES OF EXTERNAL
CAROTID ARTERY
Superficial temporal Artery
lateral/ medial pterygoid muscles
Maxillary
Artery/
Internal
Maxillary/ Facial Artery

CORONARY SINUS- venous drainage of

heart
Great Cardiac Vein
Small Cardiac Veins
Middle Cardiac Veins
ANT:
Anterior Cardiac Vein
Venae Chordae Minimae

3. SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY
Left side- from arch of aorta
Right side- from brachiocephalic
artery
First part

TERMINAL BRANCHES

From its origin to the medial

border of scalenus anterior

1. BRANCHIOCEPHALIC ARTERY
2. LEFT COMMON CAROTID ARTERY
a. External Carotid Artery
-superficial structures in neck
and head

VIT

Vertebral artery- up to cranial

cavity- ascends in neck artery (6th
cervical)

-runs cranially in the

transverse foramina of 6th
Cervical Verteb. Until
foramen magnum--basilar---Left and Right
Post cerebral --- Internal
Carotid
Internal Mammary Thyrocervical
along sternum
Thyrocervical trunk- supplies
inferior thyroid

Second part
Behind scalenus anterior
Costocervical trunk- back of neck
o 1st and 2nd intercostal spaces
o Superior Intercostal Artery
o Deep Cervical Artery
Third part
Lateral border of scalenus
anterior and outer border of first
rib
Dorsal Scapular Artery

AXILLARY ARTERY
-Distal continuation of Subclavian Artery
-landmark central structure of axilla
-origin is at the lateral margin of the first rib
-After passing the lower margin of teres
major it becomes the brachial artery

Axillary divided into 3 parts:

First Part (1branch)
Supreme Thoracic Artery
(Superior thoracic Artery)
Second Part(2 branches)
Thoraco-Acromial Artery- supply
deltoid region
Lateral Thoracic Artery- running
along lateral border of pectoralis
Third Part(3 branches)
Subscapular Artery
Anterior Circumflex Humeral Artery
Posterior Circumflex humeral Artery

BRACHIAL ARTERY
-continuation of the axillary artery beyond
the lower margin of teres major muscle
- used when taking Blood Pressure
-continues down the ventral surface of the
arm until it reaches the cubital fossa at
the elbow
Profundabrachii artery (deep brachial

artery)

Superior ulnar collateral artery

Inferior ulnar collateral artery

Radial artery (a terminal branch)

Ulnar artery (a terminal branch)

PURU
BIFURCATES:

RADIAL ARTERIES - lateral

- Subcutaneous in front of distal end
of radius
ULNAR ARTERIES- medial
- Deeper

THORAX
INTERNAL
THORACIC
ARTERY/INT.
MAMMARY ARTERY
-supplies
the
anterior chest
wall and
the breasts
- arises from the subclavian artery near its
origin
Anterior Intercostal Arteries
- UPPER 6 intercostal internal
mammary arteries
- LOWER 5intercostal
musculophrenic arteries
Posterior Intercostal Arteries
- UPPER 2- Costo-cervical Artery of
subclavian
- LOWER 9- artery form Thoracic
