Summary:
Dr. Ji Seok-yeongs Jenners vaccine led to the elimination of
smallpox in Korea. Dr. Ji also promoted the use of Hangeul and
increased the literacy rate among Koreans. He was born in 1855
and his father was a medical physician. When he was young, he
was drawn to translations of western medical journals including
the books written by Edward Jenner. He was troubled that a lot of
people were being killed by diseases and he decided to learn
more about inoculation. He then went to Japan to learn how to
produce and store vaccine. He came back to Korea with vaccines
and started to administer them. In 1900, a vaccine production site
was launched in Seoul. Towards the end of the 1800s, antiJapanese sentiment arose in Korea as tensions between Korea
and Japan increased. His clinic was burnt and he was threatened,
so he left Seoul. But he rebuilt his clinic in Jeonju. Afterwards, the
smallpox outbreak among the population was reduced
dramatically. And in 1961, the last case of smallpox was reported.

the app store with the Naver database. Furthermore, the three
telecom companies will minimize the inconvenience of users
having to shift from one app store to another. The new store will
also feature purchase points and coupons.
If One Store would be successful, the platform will serve as a
distributor for fledgling app developers. According to Naver CEO
Kim Sang-heon, he hopes to invest 10 billion won to his
companys new programs. He said that a new revenue model
could be easily built if app developers succeed in launching their
apps on One Store.
Despite some promising aspects of the new integrated app store,
there is skepticism about its benefits and if it will be
groundbreaking enough to change the existing market
structure. No Sang-kyu, a professor of business administration at
Seoul National University, said that One Store doesnt have
enough competitiveness to differentiate itself from existing
players. The new app store might not have enough reach since it
is highly focused on domestic consumers. Moreover, an industry
insider said that One Store takes 30 percent of the profit
generated from app sales as commission which is the same rate
as other app stores such as Google and Apple. It is questionable
if developers will be motivated to develop an app for the new
platform. Therefore, it should lower the commissions they receive
from app sales. Lastly, Hong Won-kyun suggested that it should
