Date __7/14/15__ Total Cost of Project: $500.00____ (up to $500.00)
Title of Project: ____Personalized Digital Learning for Math________

TITLE
I.

Why is this project important (describe the need)?

Every year students are faced with a difficult mathematics curriculum that is conceptual, fastpaced, and progressive. In other subjects such as science, students have an opportunity to
start over every year. A poor performance in 6th grade science has little effect on their
performance in 7th grade science. However, mathematics is different in that skills taught
every year, and especially in elementary school, greatly impact performance in the next grade
level. With a strict time-line for grade-level curriculum, many students continue to fall
behind even with differentiation strategies. Having a personalized digital learning
environment such as TenMarks for those students to use regularly would help to provide
additional remediation needed to close learning gaps.

II.

What would you like to accomplish (describe the unit or lesson and list instructional
objectives)?
First students needing remediation would be identified either though a diagnostic, teacher
recommendation, or based on previous math performance. The bottom 25 percentile would
be the primary focus. The students would be set up using the full version of TenMarks that
includes assignments, assessments, complete data monitoring, and reports. The students
would complete TenMarks sessions each week to improve skills from previous grade levels
that were never mastered. Then the lessons would be different for every student and truly be
personalized.

III.

How will you complete the work?

A. Describe how the instructional objectives will be met.
Students would have access to the program during Extended Learning Time (ELT) every
other day. Their sessions would include real-time interventions, differentiation, studentpaced practice, and in-session video lessons. The sessions include skill and conceptual
learning. Teachers would monitor student progress and schedule regular TenMarks
assessments to determine growth or greater need over the course of the year. This would
contribute to the school improvement objective of having 90.7% of all students, 85.9% of
black students, 87.2% of economically disadvantaged students, and 78.9% of students with
disabilities meet/exceed on the state assessment. These groups include the majority of
students in need of remediation through a personalized mathematics tool.
B. Describe the time involved (project length including amount of time each day/week).
Students can use the program during ELT 2 3 times a week, or at home since it is an
online program. Teachers will review student data weekly during collaborative data
planning and/or during the Response to Intervention (RTI) meetings.
C. Describe the people involved (grade level/subject & # of students, teachers and/or staff).
3 seventh grade math teachers (including myself); the instructional lead teacher; the special
education team leader; Approximately 70 students or 25% of the grade level.
D. Describe the materials needed for the project.
Full access to TenMarks Math Premium

IV.

What is the timeline for assessing accomplishments and objectives (describe program
evaluation
procedure)?
After the diagnostic in the beginning of the school year, assessments would be assigned and
completed quarterly using TenMarks test feature.

V.

How will the students be assessed (Include how student progress will be assessed and
reported to students, parents, teachers, and others)?
Each quarter a TenMarks assessment will be administered using the online tool. A report is then
provided that shows progress and additional sessions for differentiation. Teachers can report this
same information to students, teachers, parents and RTI/EXC case managers during meetings
where performance is evaluated.
