This waves velocity is governed by the

stiffness of the environment it crosses.

The velocity is correlated directly to the

degree of fibrosis: the stiffer the liver is,
the more severe the fibrosis can be.

The examination is composed of

10 acquisitions. Easy to perform, and
rapid, the measurement is expressed with
a clear figure in kPa. The patient lies on
his/her back, right arm raised behind the
head. The measurement is made on the
right lobe of the liver by intercostal route
using a dedicated probe with a vibrating
system.

The result is delivered at the end of the 10

acquisitions.

LIVER STIFFNESS DETERMINES

THE DEGREE OF FIBROSIS

ULTRASOUND
ELASTOGRAPHY
A major contribution
to medical practices
The FibroScan technique is
used to quantify hepatic fibrosis
in a totally non-invasive and
painless manner, with
no contra-indications
for the patient.

Soft liver:
normal condition

Whatever the stage of the

illness, the FibroScan
meets the practitioners
expectations:
1

Benefits are for all

patients suffering from a
chronic liver disease

The liver is a vital organ that purifies

the blood and synthesises, stores and
transforms substances essential to the body;
those functions are degraded by fibrosis.
Excessive alcohol intake, drugs, diabetes
and certain diseases such as HBV, HCV, biliary
diseases or haemochromatosis, may cause
hepatic fibrosis.
The FibroScan has a a very particular
interest for populations for whom biopsy
is difficult or impossible (haemophiliacs,
transplant recipients, etc.) and to patients
that originally refuse the biopsy.

A flexible examination
tool
1

The FibroScan is a reliable and totally

non-invasive tool which expands
the panel of tools already available
to practitioners. This device enables to
quantify the liver fibrosis, evenif the
patient is coinfected or under treatment.

The examination is done by the

practitioner and is fully repeatable.
The results are fast delivered.

IN PRACTICE

A reliable diagnostic and

prevention tool.
In the early stages of the illness,
the symptoms are virtually nonexistent. The more advanced the
fibrosis is, the more complications
appear. The FibroScan is the
ideal diagnostic tool for any
practitioner wishing to accurately
and immediately assessing the stage
of a patients hepatic fibrosis. Integrated into
the patients medical file, the examination
results will enable a better follow up and an
orientation of the treatment indications.

No hospitalization nor dedicated

infrastructure is required to perform
a FibroScan examination.

For greater
patient comfort
4

The FibroScan examination is completely

non-invasive, rapid and painless.

100% of patients accepted a FibroScan

examination.

An indefinitely
reproducible monitoring tool.
With no restriction on frequence of use,
the FibroScan can show the progression,
stagnation, or regression of the fibrosis
(patient with or without treatment).
FibroScan is the only pre- and posttransplantation examination tool to assess
liver fibrosis in the world.
