Topic : Should South Korea engage in aid project for North Korea ?
1. Introduction(Paragraph 1)
A. Hook : You may know that Korea is the only divided country in the world. Sadly,
until now we cannot figure out how to achieve the reunification of the two Koreas.
B. Connecting information : To historically considered, the Korean people fought
together for against enemy such as the qing dynasty, the Japanese Empire. As soon
as we overcame the crisis, the civil war called the Korean War broke out in Korea
Peninsula. After this war, South Korea inevitably had the dependent economy on
other nations and citizenship could not grow well. Similarly, North Korea fell into the
closed society and citizens lost their freedom. (Na 5-16) Thus, we must return to the
era of ethnic peace. As first action South Korea has to engage in aid project for
North Korea for unification.
C. Thesis statement : The reason why South Korea must engage in aid project for
North Korea is following three reasons; the economic development of North Korea,
the political harmony of the two Koreas, and humanitarian act.
2. Body
A. Paragraph 2 (first reason) topic sentence : Aid for North Korea facilitates the
economic development of North Korea.
a. Narrow the economic gap between two Koreas is necessary for the unification.
In fact, the per capita income of North Korea is just 854 dollars and South Korea is up to
20,000 dollars. For the unification of two Koreas, North Korea must develop their economic
level by the assistance.
b. Economic development can raise the educational level of North Korea. North
Korea citizens do not have sufficient education because of their food shortage. Suffering
from hunger is primary problem to North Korea citizens, so they must resolve this urgent
matter for their future.
c. Aid for North Korea also can be benefit for the unemployment problem of
South Korea. South Korea creates economic profits by combining the capital of technology
with the low wages and high-quality labors of North Korean. In addition, the industrial
complex such as Gaeseong Industrial Complex is offering many jobs for South Korean. (Kim
and Jeon 104)

B. Paragraph 3 (second reason) topic sentence : Aid for North Korea resolves
the political conflict.
a. Cold relationship between the two Koreas destroys the peaceful unification and
causes the war. Understandably the second Korean war must not reoccurred. Helping North
Korea government means that South Korea government admits North Korea government
and partly accepts their political belief.
b. Mutual communication should lead mutual development and finally find the
resolution of the political ideology. Continuous supporting promotes reducing ill feeling
between the communism and capitalism. Furthermore, the co-existence of pluralistic
concepts must be come into action for the unification of the two Koreas. (Kim 264)
c. Hard-line policy toward North Korea following the political confrontation is
invalid for the harmonization. Besides, the leader of North Korea often makes the
unpredictable decision by affecting overall peninsula. (Williamson 2014) On this situation,
the magnanimous friendship policy can civilize many North Koreans to South Korea.
C. Paragraph 4 (third reason) topic sentence : Aid for North Korea realizes the
ideal of humanitarianism.
a. the closer relation with North Koreans can arouse the fraternity to the two Koreas.
Many NGOs has tried to communicate with North Korean based on humanitarianism. More
complex and professional aids, moreover, deeply go into North Korean society. (Park 74) By
this assistance, North Koreans will open their mind.
b. Strictly speaking, North Korea is now defined as the rebellion group according
to the constitution. Therefore, North Korea citizens are the part of the South Korea society.
Unfortunately, about twenty-five percent of North Koreas population is threatened against
the protection of basic human rights. (Jang 60) For protecting the peoples basic human
rights, South Korea must relieve the North Korean.
c. Setting up the specific plan for North Koreans is the most important thing
based on the future-oriented view. North Koreans must improve self-sustained capacity in
their life. (Kim 51) Finally, North Koreans should adapt in the unification by human-tohuman.
D. Paragraph 5 (counterargument and refutation) :
a. Counterargument : Some South Koreans claim that the aid for North Korea will
maintain the management structure of North Korea. Also, other opposing parties of the aid
project insist South Korea has helped North Korea for about 20 years, but any substantive
results have not occurred.
b. Refutation : However, South Korea must not dice with North Koreans life just
for breaking down North Korea government. North Korea citizens have emergency problem
for their life. According to the view of humanitarianism and Korean nationalism, South Korea
should see the aid from not the short-term benefits but the long-term with carrying out the
Sunshine Policy. (Kim 46)

3. Conclusion ( paragraph 5)
A. Restated thesis : For that reason, South Korea is necessary to aid for North
Korea. In order to achieve the peaceful Korean Peninsula, South Korea ought to
consider for the benefit of economic development, the resolution of meaningless
politic conflict and the realization of humanitarian world over the long run.
B. Opinion : Surely, the aid project must not be executed under the unilateral
relationship. In addition, the one-sided cooperation will make South Korea just go
around in circles. The direction of helping North Korea should ultimately head
toward the warm-hearted mutual communication. Therefore, South Korea had
better take a lead in the unification by giving positive aid which is more specific
than before to the North Korea.
