To survive and succeed now and in the future, one needs to
be the master of the Mind, Heart and Spirit.
This entails, the ability to acquire and process increasing
amounts of information / data.
The information generated in the last 5 years by mankind is
more than what was generated since the evolution of man
from the Old Stone Age!
The greatest threat that internet companies like Google are
grappling with today is that the networks of today are bound
to collapse with the increased information / data flow
expected in the next 10 years.

Therefore, it is imperative that we develop skills to store and
process information.
On the other hand, it is an accepted paradigm that learning
and development is Life-Long process.
Given the above two, it is an inevitable conclusion that we are
all committed to a life-long journey of acquiring and
processing and mastering increasing quantum of information.

The other phenomena that are increasingly manifest, and
which add to the case for Life-Long learning and Information
Management (LiLoLIM) Paradigm are
Convergence of technologies in appliances we use daily.
Global communication networks providing instantaneous,
global, distribution of information and news.
Global connect of individuals through social networks like
Facebook and Twitter.
Increasing speed of change and dynamics of global
situations that are leading to increasing speed of
obsolescence of learning and information.

Despite availability of large quantity of information, one seems
to be knowing less because the quantum of what is know is
insignificant to available information.
Too much information leads to brain freeze or fatigue. And the
response to this could even be information avoidance. Doing
this could also make a user to loose or miss valuable
information.

Information explosion or overload could also lead to
information addictions in which the urge to get more
information could lead to over dependence on sources such
as the internet. The effect of addiction is drop in productivity
which could lead to spamming in which organizations restrict
the type of information that employees could have access to
with official equipment and facility.
Shorter attention span
Long-range thinking stops because virtually all information
needed is available in large quantity for a user to select from
and from varied sources.

With avalanche of information available especially the
uncensored ones there could be information contamination
which could lead to wrong decision making and serious
mistakes.
Information Explosion also makes one think of the past and
immediate future without adequate attention to the present.

Take regular information break by monitoring communication
facilities such as Cell-phone, Fax, Personal Computers,
television, newspaper, Internet and even e-mail. If necessary
electronics could be turned off while spam-filters could be
activated for e-mails to reduce being inundated with
unnecessary information.
Call in experts to sift the corn from the shaft i.e. knowledge
managers to identify relevant information.
Serious self-examination of what is right what is wrong and
what information is required subsequently.

Learn what others are doing successfully to curtail data
tsunami. Watch selected programs on television.
Write shorter and precise memos in your office and
encourage others to do the same.
Invent personal solutions to information deluge and if it works
for you share it with others.
All the above are steps to curtail personal information
overload occasioned by information explosion

Information Technology Challenges


Knowledge Awareness: The level of understanding of
different aspects of Information and Communication
Technology is still low. This is where augmentation of
education through programs such as ours can help.
Infrastructural Challenge: One municipal facility that is the
bane at the moment is supply of electricity, which is essential
for continuous and reliable information management. Use of
low cost domestic UPS could help.
High Cost and low penetration of Information and
Communication Facilities such as broadband internet. Use of
local internet cafes could be resorted to, to keep in touch.
