(5) One young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in a big
company. He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last
decision. The director discovered from the CV that the youths academic achievements were
excellent all the way, from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, Never had a
year when he did not score.
The director asked, Did you obtain any scholarships in school? The youth answered none.
The director asked, Was it your father who paid for your school fees? The youth answered,
My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who paid for my school
fees.
The director asked, Where did your mother work? The youth answered, My mother worked
as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands. The youth showed a
pair of hands that were smooth and perfect.
The director asked, Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before? The youth
answered, Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more books. Furthermore,
my mother can wash clothes faster than me.
The director said, I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your mothers
hands, and then see me tomorrow morning.
The youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he happily
requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt strange, happy but with
mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The youth cleaned his mothers hands
slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was the first time he noticed that his mothers hands were
so wrinkled, and there were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that
his mother shivered when they were cleaned with water.
This was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that washed the clothes
everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in the mothers hands were the
price that the mother had to pay for his graduation, academic excellence and his future. After
finishing the cleaning of his mothers hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining
clothes for his mother. That night, mother and son talked for a very long time. Next morning,
the youth went to the directors office.

The Director noticed the tears in the youths eyes, asked: Can you tell me what have you
done and learned yesterday in your house? The youth answered, I cleaned my mothers
hand, and also finished cleaning all the remaining clothes.
The Director asked, please tell me your feelings. The youth said, Number 1, I know now
what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not the successful me today. Number 2,
By working together and helping my mother, only I now realize how difficult and tough it is to
get something done. Number 3, I have come to appreciate the importance and value of family
relationship.
The director said, This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to recruit a person
who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the sufferings of others to get
things done, and a person who would not put money as his only goal in life. You are hired.
Later on, this young person worked very hard, and received the respect of his subordinates.
Every employee worked diligently and as a team. The companys performance improved
tremendously.

Moral: If one doesnt understand and experience the difficulty it takes to earn the
comfort provided by their loved ones, than they will never value it. The most
important thing is to experience the difficulty and learn to value hard work behind all
the given comfort.

(8) An 80 year old man was

sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly
educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.
The Father asked his Son, What is this?
The Son replied It is a crow. After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time,
What is this?
The Son said Father, I have just now told you Its a crow.
After
a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, What
is this? At this time some ex-pression of irritation was felt in the
Sons tone when
he said to his Father with a rebuff. Its a crow, a crow.
A
little after, the Father again asked his Son t he 4th time, What is
this? This time the Son shouted at his Father, Why do you keep asking
me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many
times IT IS A CROW. Are you not able to understand this?
A
little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old

tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On
opening
a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were
written in the diary :Today
my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow
was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and
I
replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly
each time h e asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I
did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent
child.
While the little child asked him 23 times What is
this, the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same
question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same
question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed. So..
If
your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a
burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and
kind to them. Be considerate to you

Overcoming bad habits A wealthy man requested an old scholar to wean his son away from his
bad habits. The scholar took the youth for a stroll through a garden. Stopping suddenly he asked the
boy to pull out a tiny plant growing there.
The youth held the plant between his thumb and forefinger and pulled it out. The old man then asked
him to p ull out a slightly bigger plant. The youth pulled hard and the plant came out, roots and all.
Now pull out that one, said the old man pointing to a bush. The boy had to use all his strength to pull
it out.
Now take this one out, said the old man, indicating a guava tree. The youth grasped the trunk and
tried to pull it out. But it would not budge. Its impossible, said the boy, panting with the effort.
So it is with bad habits, said the sage. When they are young it is easy to pull them out but when
they take hold they cannot be uprooted.
The session with the old man changed the boys life.

Moral: Dont wait for Bad Habits to grow in you, drop them while you have control over it
else they will get control you.

Secret Success Stories

Have you read about the secret success stories? Here we will tell you one interesting story.
A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near
the river the next morning .They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the
river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked
him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until
the boy started turning blue.
Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and
take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked: " What did you want the most when you wgoal-settingactivityere there?" The boy replied: "Air." Socrates said: "That is the secret to success. When you
want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it. There is no other secret."

The motivation to succeed comes from the burning desire to achieve a purpose. Napoleon Hill
wrote: " Whenever the
mind of man can
conceive and believe,
the mind can achieve."
A burning desire is the
starting point of all
accomplishment. Just
like a small fire cannot
give much heat, a weak
desire cannot produce
great results.

On the best sunny day, the most powerful magnifying glass will not light paper if you
keep moving the glass. But if you focus and hold it, the paper will light up. That is the
power of concentration.
A man was traveling and stopped at an intersection. He asked an elderly man,
"Where does this road take me?" The elderly person asked, "Where do you want to
go?" The man replied, "I don't know." The elderly person said, "Then take any road.
What difference does it make?"
How true. When we don't know where we are going, any road will take us
there.
Suppose you have all the football eleven players, enthusiastically ready to
play the game, all charged up, and then someone took the goal post away. What

would happen to the game? There is nothing left. How do you keep score? How do
you know you have arrived?
Enthusiasm without direction is like wildfire and leads to frustration.
Goals give a sense of direction. Would you sit in a train or a plane without knowing
where it was going? The obvious answer is no. Then why do people go through life
without having any goals?

(1) As a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these
huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no
cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime can break away from their bonds
but for some reason, they did not.
(2) He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there and made no attempt
to get away. Well, trainer said, when they are very young and much smaller we use the
same size rope to tie them and, at that age, its enough to hold them. As they grow up, they
are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them,
so they never try to break free.
(3) The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but
because they believed they couldnt, they were stuck right where they were.
(4) Like the elephants, how many of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do
something, simply because we failed at it once before?

(5) Moral: Failure is a part of learning. We should never give up the struggle in life. You
Fail not because you are destined to fail, but because there are lessons which you
need to learn as you move on with your life.
(6) IMPROVE YOURSELF Self appraisal
(7) little boy went into a drug store, reached for a soda carton and pulled it over to the telephone.
He climbed onto the carton so that he could reach the buttons on the phone and proceeded to
punch in seven digits (phone numbers). The store-owner observed and listened to the
conversation.
(8) Boy: Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
(9) Woman: (at the other end of the phone line): I already have someone to cut my lawn.
(10)Boy: Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price of the person who cuts your lawn now.
(11)Woman: Im very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.
(12)Boy: (with more perseverance) : Lady, Ill even sweep your curb and your sidewalk, so on
Sunday you will have the prettiest lawn in all of Palm beach , Florida.
(13)Woman: No, thank you.

(14)With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was
listening to all this, walked over to the boy.
(15)Store Owner: Son I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a
job.
(16)Boy: No thanks.
(17)Store Owner: But you were really pleading for one.
(18)Boy: No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the Job I already have. I am the one who
is working for that lady I was talking to!

(19)

Moral: This is what we call Self Appraisal. Every time if we dont get ahead

of others, we blame others for it. We should look to our self and compare, find own
weaknesses and work hard to throw away weaknesses. Always Work Hard, Honest
and with full Dedication. It will always pay up.
(20)Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that
she didnt know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the
time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a
chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.
(21)Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and
ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his
daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After
twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them
in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out
and placed it in a cup.
(22)Turning to her, he asked. Daughter, what do you see? Potatoes, eggs and coffee, she
hastily replied.
(23)Look closer, he said, and touch the potatoes. She did and noted that they were soft.
(24)He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the
hard-boiled egg.
(25)Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.
(26)Father, what does this mean? she asked.
(27)He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same
adversity-the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong,
hard and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with
the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the
inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they
were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

(28)Which one are you? he asked his daughter. When adversity knocks on your door, how do
you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?

(29)

Moral: In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only

thing that truly matters is how you choose to react to it and what you make out of it.
Life is all about leaning, adopting and converting all the struggles that we experience
into something positive.
