ANTHRO-INSPIRED SCARFLET

NOTE: This scarf was something I wanted to make and knew I could figure out.
When I initially made it available as a pattern, it was because I figured others would like to make it
too. As I am not a pattern designer, it was merely my notes that made sense to me. After a few
years and numerous questions (and some complaints), I reknit the scarf and tried to make the
instructions easier to understand. This pattern has been revised to reflect those changes.
As an aside, I think I might like it even better if the leaf part was a bit larger. Also, many have
mentioned that 12.5 is not long enough for the neck part. I agree. At the time, I only had single
skeins of Chamonix and attempted to get a full scarf from each.
I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

Materials:
Heavy worsted/Aran to chunky weight yarn (approximately 120 150 yards) on
Size 8 (US) Needles
I used Jaeger Chamonix (discontinued)

Starting at tip of point, cast on 2 stitches.

Row 3: kfb, (k1, p1) to last stitch, k1 (5 sts)

Row 4: kfb, p3, k1 (6 sts)
Row 5: kfb, (p1, k1) 2 times, k1 (7 sts)

Row 21: kfb, (p1, k1) 10 times, k1 (23 sts)
Row 22: kfb, p21, k1 (24 sts)
Row 23: kfb, (k1, p1) 11 times, k1 (25 sts)
Row 24: kfb, p23, k1 (26 sts)
Note: If you desire a larger leaf, continue increasing one stitch per row to
desired width, incorporating pattern as above.
Work even as follows:
Row 25: k1, (p1, k1) 11 times, k1 (26 sts)
Row 26: k1, p24, k1 (26 sts)
Repeat Rows 25 & 26 5 times or until leaf measures approximately 5 (if you
made your leaf wider, then change length accordingly as well.
Keep track of rows so that second leaf will be the same length.
Divide for Loop Opening:
*K1, Slip next stitch onto a stitch holder. Repeat from * across (every other stitch
will be on holder. Half the total amount of stitches (13) should be on holder and
the other half on needle).
With ws facing, working from needle stitches only, work as follows:

Row 1: p1, k1 across row, ending with p1.

Row 2: k1, p1 across row, ending with k1.
Repeat last 2 rows until 13 rows have been completed, approximately 2 . Break
yarn and place these stitches on holder (to be worked later).
Pick up stitches from 1st holder. With ws facing, work as follows:
Row 1: p1, k1 across row, ending with p1.
Row 2: k1, p1 across row, ending with k1.
Work above 2 rows for 13 rows, ending with a ws row.
Combine stitches from holder and stitches from needle as follows:
With right side facing, k1 from holder, k1 from stitches on needle alternately
until all 26 stitches are on one needle.
Neck:
Row 1 (ws): k1, p24, k1
Row 2 (rs): k1, (k1, p1) 12 times , k1
Continue the above two rows for approximately 18 or desired length for neck.
Second Leaf:
k2 tog across row (13 stitches)
Row 1 (ws): p1, k1 across row, ending with p1.
Row 2 (rs): k1, p1 across row, ending with k1.
Repeat above two rows until 13 rows have been completed, ending with a ws
row.
Kfb of every stitch (26 stitches)
Work as follows:
Row 1: k1, (k1, p1) 12 times, k1
Row 2: k1, p24, k1

Repeat the above 2 rows for 13 rows (or the same amount of rows you kept track
of from first leaf.), ending with a ws row.
Shape point:
Row 1: k1, k2 tog, (p1, k1) 11 times, k1 (25 sts)
Row 2: k1, p2 tog, p21, k1 (24 sts)
Row 3: k1, k2 tog, (k1, p1) 10 times, k1 (23 sts)
Row 4: k1, p2 tog, p19, k1 (22 sts)
