1. 1. (a) Where does the narrator go every afternoon? They were always at the Hospital. (b) Why does he go there?
He was getting his knees treated.
2. (a) What do the papers reveal about how the narrator acquired his medals? He got the medals, because he was
American. (b) How do the boys attitude toward the narrator change when they read the papers? They change their
attitude towards him because they got their medals in a different way.
3. (a) What advice does the major give the narrator toward the end of the story? That a man must not marry. (b)
What has happened to the majors wife? She died of pneumonia.

2. After reading Ernest Papa Hemingways In Another Country, I deduce that the major is the code hero and the
narrator is the Hemingway hero. The major is the code hero because his experience more and is going through a lot
of pain. His wife just passed away, and thats what he tries to explain to the narrator, and the narrator is the
Hemingway hero because hes figuring out how much things the other characters are going through and that the
other guys got their medals for doing something he would not imagine doing, and also learning from the majors
experience.

K. After reading The Battler, decide whom you believe to be the code hero and whom you believe to be the
Hemingway hero, then type this: After reading Ernest The Battler, I deduce that Bugs is the code hero and Nick
Adams is the Hemingway hero. Bugs is the code hero because he shows the knowledge and he can relate to the
grace under pressure, and Nick Adams is the Hemingway hero because even though he can be easily confused as a
code hero, he is a young character who learns a lot from bugs.. (Make sure to give a good concrete example for
each.)

4. After reading Ernest Papa Hemingways A Very Short Story, I deduce that Luz is the code hero and the man
is the Hemingway hero. Luz is the code hero because she knows more about living, since she wants to keep doing
her duty as a nurse, and the man is the Hemingway hero because he doesnt present the grace under pressure, and he
learns from a bad experience that life isnt easy.

5. After reading Ernest Papa Hemingways Hills Like White Elephants, I deduce that Jig is the code hero and
the man is the Hemingway hero. Jig is the code hero because shes facing the grace under pressure and she handles

her self in her situation, so she knows she cant take the easy way out, and the man is the Hemingway hero because
he wants to prevent the girl from getting the baby by performing an abortion, and avoid any further problem.

6. I deduce that the old waiter is the code hero and the young waiter is the Hemingway hero. The old waiter is the
code hero because hes sympathetic with the old man drinking at the caf, he knows what is like to be in such
position, and the young waiter is the Hemingway hero because he is not aware of what might be on the old mans
head, he has no life experience as long as the old waiter or the old man.

7. I deduce that there is no code hero and that Nick is the Hemingway hero. Nick is the Hemingway hero because
even when he has been through a lot of experiences, hes still growing emotionally and from his grace under
pressure.

8. -Javier: Hey Yoe, its been a long time, how you been
Yoe: All it OK, Im getting better.
-Javier: got any new job?
Yoe: Right now Im not looking for a job, Im all about my self now.
-Javier: Great, thats fantastic. Its been quite a few years since your last Mental breakdown.

12. I have indeed read all of the discussion board entries, and I find that Ms. Dianas is the most interesting.
13. After reading the analysis of Hills, I can say that I found the following bit to be most interesting: that even
when the man knows that she wont do an abortion, he keeps insisting on how much of a burden the baby will be for
them.
