Aerosol cans contain flammable propellants and pose a fire hazard. When using aerosols, adequate ventilation and PPE are necessary to prevent inhalation or exposure. Aerosols should not be sprayed near open flames, heat sources, or while smoking. Empty aerosol cans should not be pierced or exposed to heat like in cars or under the sun, as the pressure inside can cause them to explode. Partially full aerosol cans must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

be flammable so: Do not spray it on, or near a naked flame or fire. Do not smoke when you are using an aerosol or just afterwards. Do not spray near any heat or source of ignition (such as a pilot light or candle). Keep aerosols away from children. It is important to read MSDS and follow the instructions. SAFETY FLASH
Aerosol cans are used in a
variety of industries. Some aerosol products - paints, solvents, pesticides - are hazardous. Most aerosol cans pose a fire hazards because they contain highly flammable propellants such as propane and butane. Aerosol products must be used with adequate ventilation and PPE to prevent inhalation, exposure and potentially harmful health effects. 1

Aerosols are pressurized so please remember:
Do not put aerosols on a bonfire, even when they are empty, because they will explode and may cause injury. Do not pierce aerosols, even when they are empty, because there is always some pressure, and possibly some of the product left. It may be flammable or cause injury if you pierce the can. MSDS OF WD-40: Risk Phrases: R10-Flammable, R66-Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking Safety Phrases: S2-Keep out of reach of children, S23- Do not breathe gas/ fumes/ vapors/ spray, S24-avoid contact with skin SAFETY FLASH

Aerosols are pressurized so please remember:
Keep aerosols out of the sun and in a dry place away from heat. The pressure inside the can increases greatly in the heat and may cause it to burst. Dont keep aerosol cans under open sun. (e.g. in tricycles) Never keep aerosols inside cars because even in winter temperatures can rise quickly. You should keep them in the boot. SAFETY FLASH

Aerosol Can Disposal:
DO use up the contents of an entire spray can before starting another. Make sure that the can is completely empty before discarding it. DON'T discard partially empty spray cans in the trash dumpster. Non-empty aerosols that cannot be returned or exchanged must be managed as a hazardous waste.
At the time of disposal, any aerosol can containing
hazardous chemicals that would be a listed or characteristic hazardous waste in a hazardous waste container. If the can is empty, that is, it contains no propellant or product and is at atmospheric pressure, the can will not be regulated as hazardous waste and may be recycled as scrap metal or land filled.
