The contents of an aerosol may


be flammable so:
Do not spray it on, or near a
naked flame or fire.
Do not smoke when you are
using an aerosol or just
afterwards.
Do not spray near any heat or
source of ignition (such as a
pilot light or candle).
Keep aerosols away from
children.
It is important to read MSDS and
follow the instructions.

Aerosol cans are used in a


variety of industries. Some
aerosol products - paints,
solvents, pesticides - are
hazardous. Most aerosol
cans pose a fire hazards
because they contain highly
flammable propellants such
as
propane and butane.
Aerosol products must be
used
with
adequate
ventilation and PPE to
prevent inhalation, exposure
and
potentially
harmful
health effects.

Aerosols are pressurized so please remember:


Do not put aerosols on a bonfire, even when they
are empty, because they will explode and may cause
injury.
Do not pierce aerosols, even when they are empty,
because there is always some pressure, and possibly
some of the product left. It may be flammable or
cause injury if you pierce the can.

Aerosols are pressurized so please remember:


Keep aerosols out of the
sun and in a dry place away
from heat. The pressure
inside the can increases
greatly in the heat and may
cause it to burst. Dont keep
aerosol cans under open sun.
(e.g. in tricycles)
Never keep aerosols inside
cars because even in winter
temperatures can rise quickly.
You should keep them in the
boot.

Aerosol Can Disposal:


DO use up the contents of an entire
spray can before starting another.
Make sure that the can is completely
empty before discarding it.
DON'T discard partially empty spray
cans in the trash dumpster.
Non-empty aerosols that cannot be returned or
exchanged must be managed as a hazardous waste.

At the time of disposal, any aerosol can containing


hazardous chemicals that would be a listed or
characteristic hazardous waste in a hazardous waste
container. If the can is empty, that is, it contains no
propellant or product and is at atmospheric pressure,
the can will not be regulated as hazardous waste and
may be recycled as scrap metal or land filled.
