Your child has their end of year science exam during the course of this week (20th June
2016). The exam will take place during one of your childs timetabled science lessons. The
content of the exam is based solely on science experimental skills. The emphasis on
science enquiry skills in the exam reflects the changes in the new GCSE science courses
which are being delivered from September 2016.
The skills that have been taught during the year have recently been reviewed and students
have had an opportunity to complete a booklet of practise questions to help prepare them
for this assessment. The science team would encourage you to discuss the content of the
booklet with your child. Further support can be found through the use of YouTube. There
are some suggested links below to educational tutorials about some of the key skills
required.
Recall and understanding of science content is still assessed through end of topic
assessments that take place throughout the year during lesson time. There is regular
feedback and intervention from the class teacher to support the understanding of the
content.
The results from this assessment will help to inform our planning for your child as they
move to their next year in school and may result in a change of group where we feel it
would benefit the progress of your child.
We wish all students the very best in their assessment.
Yours sincerely
