PAST STATE OF THE AREA


Darulaman city is a new residential area located in the
town of Jitra.
Formerly it was known as Pekan Tanah Merah, Jitra.
Higher education in Bandar Darulaman area before 2006,
- Institute of Teacher Education Darul Aman (IPDA).

In 2000, population of Mukim Naga was about 32,313


people.
The population of Darulaman city stood at 2,600 people.
Taman Siswa 2 made after their UUM temporary campus
in Darulaman city.

1. University of Utara Malaysia
*It was officially established on 16 February 1984.
* The temporary office of UUM is housed in a building in
the Jitra city until Darulaman Jitra Campus prepared.
*Construction of the campus while costing RM96 million.
*Within six months of the first phase is completed and a
total of 295 students started a pilot study on July 7, 1984.

2. Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim (POLIMAS)


Located in Darulaman city, approximately 25 kilometers from Alor
Setar.
POLIMAS established in February 1984.
It was known as Politeknik Alor Setar and he laid his dormitory
building of Sekolah Menengah Teknik Alor Setar.
POLIMAS aims to train students of SPM and SPMV to produce
professional manpower in engineering and commerce.
3. IPG Campus of Darul Aman
One of the 27 campuses of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG).
Since his move from Maktab Perguruan Lembah Pantai in 1990.
IPG Campus of Darulaman has handled a variety of courses and
programs related to education and teaching either planned by the
Ministry of Education, Division of Teacher Education or the IPG
Campus of Darulaman own.

In light of this observation, combined with the positive
impacts or urbanization outlined above, it is clear that
the main challenge at present is not that of slowingdown urbanization, but of learning how to cope with
rapid urban growth. In recognition of the role of cities
as engines of economic development, there has
recently been a resurgence of interest in urban
management as the main tool for coping with rapid
urban growth and the positive demographic and socioeconomic impacts of urbanization.
