LPG CYLINDER CHECKLIST

Date:

Spare or empty cylinders should be stored outside, preferably in a lockable area or

compound to prevent vandalism or theft

LPG cylinders should never be kept below ground level or near drains, cellars or
basements. This is to prevent potentially explosive atmospheres building up should
there be a leakage, (the gas is heavier than air and will always find the lowest level).

The appropriate warning notices (i.e. Highly Flammable LPG) must be displayed
wherever cylinders are stored.

Smoking or naked flames must not be permitted in LPG cylinder storage areas.

Cylinders must be kept clear of direct heat and at least 3metres away from highly
flammable liquids or materials

Regular checks should be made to ensure that all hosing and connections are in
good condition and that there are no leaks.
A lighted match or any naked flame should never be used to trace a point of leakage.
No LPG cylinder, whether full or empty, should be left with a valve open, cylinders
should always be stored and used with valves uppermost, this is to prevent liquid
being expelled into the pipe-work and regulators.

LPG cylinders should not be dropped, roughly handled or allowed to come into violent
contact with other objects.

Accommodation in which gas is used must be adequately ventilated.

If there are ever any doubts about the safety of any gas cylinder or device turn off the
valve and remove the cylinder or device from use immediately. It must be suitably
marked/labelled to ensure it cannot be inadvertently reused until it has been repaired
or replaced.

Ensure installation pipe work, appliances and flues provided are maintained in
a safe condition.

Ensure an annual safety check is carried out on each appliance and/or flue
that is provided.

Insure maintenance and safety checks are carried out by a Gas Safe
registered installer at least once every twelve months.
