Strategic Plan End Result: We are designing and implementing an integrated and balanced assessment system
that allows us to measure student proficiency and growth on district requirements
and state standards.

Purpose: To increase PreK-12 program coherence through the alignment, adoption and implementation of a
guaranteed and viable curriculum in Social Studies

Committee Responsibilities:
Identify key issues and trends in Social Studies
Conduct a district Social Studies needs assessment
Examine the MN K-12 Academic Standards in Social Studies
Define the PreK-12 Social Studies program and articulation (curriculum)
Research evidence based practices to develop disciplinary literacy in civics, economics, geography and
history, and explicitly link to 5D+ Instructional Framework (instruction)
Identify instruments to measure student progress (assessment)
Recommend core instructional materials
Recommend supplemental materials/programs
Make recommendations for technology integration in Social Studies
Make recommendations for professional development needs

The Social Studies CAC will convene for an initial meeting on Thursday, August 20 from 7:30-10:30am.
Teachers will be paid the $32/hr. curriculum rate according to the Master Agreement.
Ongoing sessions for the 2015-16 school year will take place during the scheduled
teacher duty day. A substitute will be provided for teachers on those dates.
