areers360 B-School Ranking and Rating 2016 brings you a comprehensive list of
top B-Schools in India 2016 based on annual survey conducted by Careers360
on MBA and PGDM institutes across different states in India. The Ranking and
Rating of top B-schools in India 2016 by Careers360 also brings insights that can
help you gauge B-schools on different parameters like faculty strength, alumni network,
placements etc.
The country, as on date, has over 3300 institutions (nearly 90% are MBA schools and
the rest are PGDM) and most of them are departments situated within engineering colleges and affiliated to respective technical universities. While the PGDM schools are much
smaller in number (around 300), quite a few of them offer high value programmes and
their autonomy enables them to be very responsive to the changing needs of industry and
academia.
This E-book brings to you the rankings and ratings of the B-schools across India.
Difference between ranking and rating
f the 3300-odd management schools in the country, not more than 400 offer
reasonable value for money. Our objective has been to identify and rank all of
them. But barring the top 100-130 schools, data on the rest is very hard to come
by. So we have attempted to rank the top 100 schools and for the rest we have
presented a zone-wise rating of where the management institutes stand in the provision of
an overall educational experience.
Our ranking and rating of management institutions across India is based on seven crucial
parameters that include research, alumni, placement student and faculty quality among
others.

Methodology for Top B-Schools
in India 2016

areers360 conducted a nation-wide survey of over 3000 B-schools as part of its

annual exercise to rank and rate management institutions based on seven crucial
parameters that include research, alumni, placement student and faculty quality
among others.
From close to 3300 institutes that offer a postgraduate programme in management

domain, the first exercise was carried out to shortlist 500 institutes. The selection was based
on critical parameters such as students and faculty; infrastructure including residential
facilities; accreditation; placements; fee, admission test score cut-offset al and our previous
assessment.
The details were available through Mandatory Disclosure, Annual Reports, websites of
National Assessment and Accreditation Council, National Board of Accreditation, AICTE
and Department of Technical Education or its equivalent. Questionnaires were uploaded
on Careers360s website and also mailed to all B-schools. The B-Schools were asked to
submit hard copies for want of supporting documents and authenticity since many respondents were found overstating their virtues. For public institutions that did not participate, we
used the RTI Act for getting information.
Post scrutiny of available data, we used our INPUT-PROCESS-OUTPUT methodology

to arrive at seven broad parameters (see graph). The assessment was further carried out for
300 institutes. The Top 100 were thus selected and proportionately divided in Public (45)
and Private (55) category. To benefit students, missing schools (due to data inadequacy),
are placed in the appropriate cluster.
B-Schools Rating
The Schools that do not figure in the top 100 have been rated separately in B-Schools Clusters. These are listed zone-wise (North, East, West, South and Central). These are clubbed
with the renowned B-Schools of the state based on the average ranking given by renowned
magazines in the last five years. The categorization is as follows:

B-schools Ranking 2016
ith B-schools opening their admission process for 2016-18 academic sessions, Careers360 Ranking of top B-Schools in India 2016 lists top 100
B-schools that include top 45 Public B-school and top 55 Private B-schools
separately. A standout feature of our ranking is the fact that we do not
exclude an institution for want of its explicit participation. Most public schools presented
in the ranking do not care to fill in the form and participate. We get them on board through
Right to Information.
Thus, the well-known B-schools which do not participate in the ranking process get
mention under the 'Missing Schools' category so that you do not miss out any of the good
B-Schools. Besides the top 100 B-schools in India, we also bring you lists of top rated
B-schools in different states.
Further, based on the Careers360 survey data for top B-schools in India 2015, we have
segregated top rated B-schools on the basis of their location, under different zones namely
East, West, North, South and Central. Each zone comprises top rated B-schools grouped
under different states.
This is the sixth edition of careers360's ranking and rating of B-Schools. Having pioneering the INPUT-PROCESS-OUTPUT methodology we have created one of the most stable
and verifiable ranking and rating system in the country for B-Schools. For the second year
in running we have limited ourselves to rank the top 100 schools in the country and rate
about 10% of the total universe. Thu, the number of public schools has gone up to 45 with
the addition of new IIMs and as a result, only 55 private schools have been ranked.

areers360 nation-wide survey of management institutions brings you here a

comprehensive list of Top 100 B-schools in India 2016. Though we have ranked
public and private B-schools separately, our ranking lists are restricted to 100
B-schools only.
Public B-schools are those institutes which are run by central or state governments.
Private B-schools are owned, run and funded by private trusts. They are not aided by the
government unlike public B-schools. The Missing Schools refer to those B-schools which
did not participate in the ranking process but are institutes worth mentioning.
How to use the rank sheet?

The rank sheet has two components, the ranked schools and the missing schools. Invariably students seek to apply to a group of institutions that, according to them, offer more or
less same level of education. One major lacuna in most rank sheets is the fact that the top
100/75/50 schools they list is only on the basis of participation. This then excludes most
other equally good schools that students could have considered while deciding on where
to apply for admission. Our missing school listing takes care of this scenario. If a school is
very good and we could not rank it objectively we still keep the school in our 'missing school
list' at an appropriate place based on its performance so that the student knows and keeps
the school in his or her consideration set. So, in our Top 100 B-schools in India 2016 listing
there are nearly 15 schools, which in our opinion deserve to be in there, but did not figure
since there was no participation.
What is new about the public B-Schools?

For the first time in the last five years nearly 45 out of the Top 100 B-schools in India 2016
are from the public domain. Emergence of the new IIMs at Kashipur, Udaipur, Rohtak and
Ranchi has resulted in beefing up the number of public schools. With five new IIMs coming
up this year, the fight for being in the Top 100 B-schools in India is only going to be sharper
in the future in the public schools domain.
Private B-Schools are a mature market

There are quite a few substantive changes in the individual pecking order of the private
management institutes with some losing or gaining a few positions, but what is interesting
is the fact that only 11 schools are new entrants in the rank sheet this year out of the top 55
private MBA colleges amongst Top 100 B-schools in India 2016. Nearly 8 out these 11 were
in the 'missing school list'. Thus only 3 schools are totally new.
And what is interesting is the fact that in the top 40 private schools the change in order is
restricted to one or two places and only in case of Nirma there has been a drop of 5 places.
This indicates that the B-Schools have more or less stabilized their relative pecking order.
Thus in the coming days it would be quite difficult for a newcomer to break into the top
echelons of the ranking order. Even in the bottom pool, only a few players have gained
substantially.
Top Public B-schools in India 2016

With their numbers nearing twenty, the IIMs have become much more widespread and in
an opportunity- starved nation, they do provide a reasonably high quality education that
has value.
