Tee Ball

Rationale
One of the fundamental themes of the Australian culture is that of sport.
Providing children an opportunity to learn and successfully participate in a sport
at a young age will help foster an interest in sport both as a participant and as a
spectator.
This lesson plan is for a year 2 class consisting of mainly 7 year olds. The Tee Ball
game is quick to learn and means that the children are able to play a simple
game after minimal lessons. Tee Ball is a good sport to play at this age as it
combines the use of Fundamental Movement Skills that this age group have
learnt and are continuing to master. These include throwing overarm, catching
and strikes a ball from a tee with a bat. Teaching and practising these skills in a
sport format allow the class to see how fundamental skills are incorporated in
sports, it provides the opportunity to engage with a team and practise key skills
of communicating and team work.
This topic is designed to be taught over 5 x 1 hour PE classes allowing students
time to practise elements of the tee ball game each week in a modified game as
well as having the opportunity to practise some of the key Fundamental
Movement Skills from the sport each week. The classes have been designed to
maximise student interaction each week with 2 activities covered most weeks
(excluding the warm up / warm down) to cater for individual preferences.
Prior to the commencement of the first PE class, the students should read
Berenstain Bears Play T-ball in class to facilitate language and literacy
components in each lesson.

Discipline
The behaviour management techniques used in this class will be based on the
Canter Model. In the first lesson students will decide on the rules for the class, at
the start of each lesson any issues that may have arisen in the previous lesson
will be modelled and practised eg turn taking. If individual students choose not to
comply with the class agreed rules they will be taken aside by the teacher and a
coloured dot put against their name on the role. If the behaviour continues the
student will receive a 2nd dot followed by a one on one discussion with the
teacher when the rest of the class is engaged. If the behaviour continues the
student will be sent to the buddy class.

Set up several stations each starting with one batter

and three or four fielders (X). The batter will attempt
to put the ball in play by hitting it inside the diamond.
If they miss the ball or if they hit the tee without
knocking the ball forward, then it will be considered a
strike. Each player has 3 strikes before it is the next
