Message From Presidente Dayton

Always Returning Thanks Unto God

We have just completed getting all of the reports into the office and are
thrilled to see that in this past week the Spain Barcelona Mission was
blessed with 16 baptisms!! That is one of the finest weeks we have seen in
quite some time and we have reason to rejoice and thank our Heavenly
Father for responding to our fervent prayer and fasting that we might
bring more of His children into the waters of baptism. Our fast one week
ago was conducted with the purest of intents. Our only thought was for
the welfare of others and bringing more souls to Christ. I am so profoundly
grateful that our Heavenly Father heard our prayers and saw fit to pour
out a marvelous blessing on us. Once again we see the power of fasting
and the miraculous accomplishments we see when we acknowledge
God as the source of all of our blessings and the source of this miracle.
In Alma 7:23, we read, ..being diligent in keeping the
commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye
stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto
God for whatsoever things ye do receive. Well, the mission has been
working hard on obedience, we did ask for something (to see more of His
children enter the waters of baptism), and He was true to His word and
poured us out a great blessing. Now we need to do our part. I want to
thank the Lord with all of the power of my being for this great blessing.
While it blesses us as a mission and you as missionaries, the greatest
blessing comes to those who took upon themselves the name of Christ
and entered the waters of baptism. Some day they will look back and
realize it was the single most important day in their livesthe day in which
they began their journey back to live with their Father.

Now, it will be our responsibility to maintain the momentum. With the

Mission Tour, Concilio, and Transfers all within one week, there might be a
temptation to slow down in the work. True escalator missionaries will
never let that happen and will continue to focus their energies on finding,
teaching repentance and baptizing converts. I feel so grateful that I
have the privilege of working side by side with the great missionaries of El
Faro. I am grateful for each and every one of you who work hard, are
exactly obedient and go out and give it your all every day. I am grateful
for wonderful District Leaders and Zone leaders; I deeply appreciate our
tremendous Assistants and the office staff. I am profoundly thankful that
the Lord found me worthy to participate in this great latter-day labor of
saving souls by bringing them to Christ. I hope you will join me in offering
up a mighty prayer of gratitude to our Father in Heaven tonight for
blessing us with 16 baptisms this week. The gospel is true and miracles still
happen!! Of that I bear humble witness.
Gozoso en gratitude,

President Merril T Dayton

Message From Hermana Dayton

Flexibility vs. Resistance

Flexibility is willingness to change plans or ideas. It is not setting our affections

on plans or places that could be changed by those we are serving.
In order to be flexible, change must occur, and that change produces
tension. Many studies have been done on change and what change is most
stressful in life. The top stressful events are the loss of a family member, divorce,
and uprooting a family and moving them to a new location--especially one
that is unknown. It is interesting to note that our Heavenly Father often requires
his children to uproot and move. Lehi
and his family were asked to move as was Noah, Abraham, the Sons of Mosiah
and
the prophet Joseph Smith and the early saints along with many others. He
called the Nation of Israel out of Egypt and throughout their wilderness journey
had them watch the cloud over the Tabernacle. When the cloud moved they
were to move. Therefore, they had to be in a constant state of flexibility.

The Savior demonstrated flexibility often by changing his plans to

accommodate the needs of others. When He called his disciples He asked
them to leave their homes, their vocations and follow Him.
Our Heavenly Father asks us to not have our hearts set upon the things of this
world in order for us to be available to serve. in 1 John 2:15 we read, "love not
the world, neither the things that are in the world." He taught, "For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also." Luke 12:34. Flexibility is being ready

and willing to move when God says "move" and to stay when he says, "stay."
Very often, the degree of pain we experience when required to be flexible
reveals the extent to which our affections are set on the things of this world.
On Saturday night President and I attended a baptism in Zaragoza of three
wonderful converts. As we traveled back to Barcelona, President made 20
calls asking missionaries to serve as Zone Leaders, Sister Training Leaders, to
open new areas, etc. As I listened to his many requests and as I heard your
wonderful responses, I marveled at how flexible you are as missionaries. As the
request for change was made, all missionaries immediately responded, "yes-I'll be happy to President." We feel grateful for your flexibility and
your willingness to do whatever it takes to build the kingdom in Spain.
...you are wonderful!
We can apply flexibility to missionary work by:
--Being willing to change plans and ideas as we are prompted by the Spirit
--Giving up our original plans when someone calls and is in need of our service
--Trying different ideas learned in Zone Conference, District Meeting or during
intercambios to be a more effective missionary
--Looking for the miracles when plans get changed and speaking
the reasons why the new plan was better
--Trying different ways of doing things suggested by your companion or
leaders instead
of continuing to do it your way
--Enjoying the opportunity to move to a new area, to have a new
companion to further
the work of the Lord
--Respecting and following the decisions made by President Dayton
Transitions can be hard. The degree to which we can handle change may
be a marker of our ability to find happiness as we pass through each stage of
our lives. We are continually amazed at the flexibility and adaptability of you
missionaries. May the same degree of flexibility you have shown in the mission
field bless you throughout your lives.

Nada mejor que terminar la

iglesia dos domingos
consecutivos y ley varios

y temor pero le prometimos
que si se bautizaba el temor
desaparecera. As fue el

tuvimos su bautismo, fue una
experiencia espiritual muy
especial. Es la mejor
experiencia que un misionero
puede experimentar, un
servicio bautismal despus de
tantos esfuerzos y tanto trabajo
arduo el seor abre los cielos y
nos sorprende con milagros
tan grandes como el de

mi salvador.
