The walking trail

has been completed and the
Trustees encourage anyone to
come out and enjoy the new
trail. No motorized vehicles are
allowed.
Trustees will be selling
memorial bricks for the
brick walkway at the gazebo.
The cost will be $35 for up to
three lines on a 4x8 brick.
There will be a sign-up sheet at
the Sesquicentennial celebration.
Trustees will be adding
landscaping
and
amenities along the trail
path. Anyone wishing to donate
to a memorial fund for park
benches or trees can contact the
Trustees.
Trustees are also looking for
interested
Newton
Township/Pleasant Hill residents who are interested in
helping
with
the
landscaping along the
walking trail. They would be
very interested in anyone who
would like to share perennial
plants and flowers from their
own yards and gardens, as well
as anyone wishing to volunteer
their efforts in designing, planting, maintenance, or other ideas
for amenities along the walking
trail.

Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and Gene (Marsha) Rapp, Piqua.
Their grandchildren are Jessica (Rapp) (Ian) Sparkman, League

Long, Bethany, West Virginia; Benjamin, Aidan, and Dustin

Gettysburg Homecoming

The Cardinal Center

Located at 260 Main street, The Cardinal Center was formerly a school. Built in 1921, it
served as Gettysburg's K-12 building until consolidation with Greenville City Schools in
1972. It was an elementary from then until it's closure in 2007. It is now the property of the
Village of Gettysburg.
Preparations are currently underway to convert the school into a dual use facility.
The east wing of the building, which includes the gymnasium, restrooms, and two classrooms is now available for basketball, volleyball, graduation & birthday parties, reunions,
receptions, meetings of all kinds, shows and other events. Call the village office for details

Gettysburg Homecoming Festival Fun

To Include 5K Walk/Run
Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 25, so you dont miss out on all the fun and excitement at the Gettysburg Homecoming Festival.
A parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Norcold, with Esther (Petersime) Clark as Grand Marshal.
A 5K Walk/Run will begin at 9 a.m. at the Gettysburg Cardinal Center, 260 E. Main St.
The course features a mix of town and country, with terrain suitable for both beginners and
experienced runners. The Walk/Run will end back at the Gettysburg Cardinal Center. The $25
registration fee includes a T-shirt if registered by June 18. Race divisions are 20 & Under,
21-30, 31-40, and 41 & Over. Online registration ends June 22. Paper registrations will be accepted until the day of the race. Registration day of the race will be from 8-8:45 a.m. Male
and female first place finishers in each age division will receive an award. Register online at

Held at the school will be a Flea Market from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., a display of Petersime Incubator Co. memorabilia (featuring a classic incubator), class photos of Gettysburg graduates,
food concessions, a Bouncy House and other activities kids enjoy, and a pick-up game (softball
or volleyball) will start at 1 p.m.
Also that day, a Community-wide Garage Sale will be held, and to top off the days excitement, a fireworks display will be held in the Community Park (rain date: June 26).
Proceeds will benefit Friends of the Cardinal Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, for
continued Cardinal Center renovation, operation, and funding of community programs.

Shotokan Karate Demonstration

Offered Thursday at MUPL
Fourth degree black belt Valerie McKay will demonstrate traditional Shotokan Karate to students at the Milton-union Public Library
as part of its On Your Mark. Get SetREAD! Summer Reading
Program. McKay will kick off her presentation at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
June 23.
Shotokan emphasizes proper body movement and self-control, according to McKay. She will be blocking, kicking, punching, and teaching kids some of the basic moves, as well. She will also share proper
dojo etiquette.
McKay has studied Shotokan Karate for more than 23 years and
is an assistant instructor for the Dayton Shotokan Karate Club.
The Summer Reading Programs run through July 30.

FrogWatch Program Planned at Stillwater Prairie

The Miami Co. Park District will hold its FrogWatch program Friday, June 24, 9:30 p.m., at Stillwater Prairie Reserve, 9750 St. Rt. 185
in Covington.
Participants transform into citizen scientists as they learn how to
identify frogs and toads by their calls and assist a Park District naturalist
in surveying the populations at the Reserve. Data collected will be included in the North American Amphibian Monitoring Program. More

Retirement Open House for Dianna Shafer Planned Friday

Littman Thomas Agency in Bradford will host a Retirement Open House
for Dianna Shafer on Friday, June 24, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Dianna will be retiring from the insurance business after 48 years of loyal
service to the local community. Her plans are to enjoy life, shop at garage sales,
and follow her grandchildren. Dianna will be spending time with family and visiting her sons and their families. Chip and Lisa and their children reside in
Tampa, Florida, and Tim and Julianne and their children live in Cincinnati.
Dianna has served her community faithfully and has been an active member
of her school and church for many years. She will be missed by her customers
and co-workers. She has trained them well and has sworn to be on call for
them.

At 70 years young, you would think that Ginger would want to rest her body and mind.
Nope!
She is now on one of her missions.
What used to be a den, with a small library, computer, and TV, is now going to be Gingers
art room.
You can only imagine how many books, CDs, VHS tapes, and journals we had cramped
into that little room. More than I wanted to know.
Ill bring your books to you, so you can sort them as Stay or Give Away, she informed
me.
What about the ones I want to sell? I questioned.
Right. Like youre going to set up a little stand in our front yard with books to sell, she
grinned.
OK, you win. Bring them to me and lets get this over with, I groaned.
After a dozen plastic crates, I thought I was finished. Heres the last few crates you can
sort, she interjected during my special morning meditation.
The room is now empty. Everything I owned in print is now sitting in our garage for me
to figure out what to do with them.

June 7. Dr. Weber spoke about
planning for joint replacement
surgery and emphasized the
importance of pre-planning your
care before and after surgery.
According to Dr. Weber, most
people think the surgeon will plan Dr. ChaD Weber with door

VHCC Residents Enjoy Gardening

Long-term care residents at Versailles Health Care Center, a
skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, recently enjoyed an afternoon of gardening. They planted tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini,
peppers, and onions in gardening pots located in the beautiful courtyard. Delores Williams, long-term care resident, who helped plant the
vegetables, said with a big smile, I used to have about five vegetable
gardens and many flower beds at home and I love to garden. They
offered me gloves, but I said No way! I really enjoyed getting my
hands dirty again.
