WHAT IS AN EARTHQUAKE?
An earthquake (also known as a quake,
tremor or temblor) is the perceptible shaking of
the surface of the Earth, resulting from the
sudden release of energy in the earth's crust
that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes can be
violent enough to toss people around and
destroy whole cities. The seismicity or seismic
activity of an area refers to the frequency, type
and size of earthquakes experienced over a
period of time.

WHY
DO
EARTHQUAKE
HAPPEN?
Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground
suddenly breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy
causes the seismic waves that make the ground shake. When
two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing against each
other, they stick a little. They don't just slide smoothly; the
rocks catch on each other. The rocks are still pushing against
each other, but not moving. After a while, the rocks break
because of all the pressure that's built up. When the rocks
break, the earthquake occurs. During the earthquake and
afterward, the plates or blocks of rock start moving, and they
continue to move until they get stuck again. The spot
underground where the rock breaks is called the focus of the
earthquake. The place right above the focus (on top of the
ground) is called the epicenter of the earthquake.

Try this little

experiment:

1.Break a block of foam rubber in half.

2.Put the pieces on a smooth table.
3.Put the rough edges of the foam
rubber pieces together.
4.While pushing the two pieces
together lightly, push one piece away
from you along the table top while
pulling the other piece toward you.
See how they stick?
5.Keep pushing and pulling smoothly.
Soon a little bit of foam rubber along
the crack (the fault) will break and the
two pieces will suddenly slip past
each other. That sudden breaking of
the foam rubber is the earthquake.
That's just what happens along a

POSITIVE IMPACT OF
EARTHQUAKES
The experts can make the structure of the Earth, because it is only a wave of
earthquakes that can break through the hole Earth by way of menelurusuri the path
of oncoming earthquake.
The experts can figure out the location of the source of petroleum.
Tektonisme will form the relief the new Earth
Tektonisme can lift the minerals to the surface of the Earth.
Volcanism can produce new minerals create a useful survival of creatures on Earth.
Volcanism can produce building materials such as stone, sand and so on.
Volcanism can produce fertile volcanic soils that are very useful for a wide variety of
plants.
Volcanism can generate geothermal sources (geothermal)
Seisme can be used to detect the presence of certain mining items.

PREVENTION AND
COUNTERMEASURES OF EARTHQUAKE
A. Before Quake
The actions that can be performed by individuals/communities before the quake
are as follows.
1. make sure we know the safest way to leave the House in case of an
earthquake.
2. Select a safe place to meet up with family members in case of an earthquake.
3. check whether the House sturdy foundations.
4. place a large and heavy items on the bottom.
5. Keep glassware on the bottom shelf that can be locked.
6. Immediately fix the cables being damaged.

B. IN THE EVENT OF AN EARTHQUAKE

The actions that can be performed by the individual/society at the time of the earthquake
is as follows.
1. Preferred the safety of themselves, not of the goods.
2. Run as quickly as possible out of the room or House.
3. find the musalla.
4. If it is not possible to escape from the building, seek table or other objects that could be
used for shelter.
5. Stay away from glass Windows, stoves, or other home appliances that will probably fall.
6. If you are in the mountains, beware of the crumbling rocks and mudslides.
7. If you are at the beach, immediately ran to the area which is rather high due to the
earthquake on the ocean floor can cause a tsunami.
8. Beware will likely aftershocks.
9. Pray, Beg protection from the creator.

AFTER
EARTHQUAKE
C.The
actions
that can be performed by the
individual/society after the quake is as follows.
1. Stay away from damaged buildings or trees
leaning.
2. Stay away from cable or other electrical
installations.
3. check and please yourself, then the nearest help
people need help.
4. Dial the cheques as well as their families and
relatives.
5. contact the parties that can provide help.

D. RESCUE AND RECOVERY ON QUAKE

The actions that can be performed by the individual/society for
rescue and recovery due to the earthquake is as follows.
1. conduct the evacuation and refugee tents set up for the victims.
2. Perform the rescue.
3. Provide medical assistance.
4. Provide PUBLIC CONVENIENCES (shower, toilet, washing), drinking
water, and food.
5. providing emergency education.
6. Do the psychological recovery of the victims.
7. Fix and rebuild the building, the means, and other facilities
