When to [Revenge, Forgive, Move On] part 1

About the title; I think we can either take Revenge or Forgive or Move on with a
situation which has affected our life in unhappy/bad way. As we can choose only one
option, I have written these options in rectangular brackets, as a regular expression.
I think people with a little bit of computer programming background can understand
this better (You know, RegEx).
Now, to the main point.
I thought came to me the other day. When stories are told to us, especially stories
with heroes and villains, almost all of them end up as revenge stories. Villain has
done something wrong with a particular person and/or society; hero is directly or
indirectly affected by the actions of the villain, takes revenge to settle the scores,
everyone is happy. Now in the whole story, the law and order, if involved, is on the
opposite side of the hero, in general. Hero will bend and/or break all the rules to
take revenge, for personal and/or greater good and I am okay with this.
At the end of the revenge saga, when the scores are settled, I think of some
questions which are unanswered in most of the stories. The peace, law and order,
strong & people friendly leadership for which hero fought with his (and may be his
teams) life at stake; are these things achieved? If the hero has bent/broken rules
and disturbed law & order, is he ethical enough to ask for punishment and ready to
accept it? What kind of message are we trying to pass through these stories? Even
though the story has ended on happy node saying that the justice is served, is it
really true? Is the system changed in a moment, which was the whole point of fight
in the first place? Lets say the justice is served and people are happy for it, is it the
lasting happiness people were hoping for? People who got this justice for free, will
they be able to understand the sacrifices and efforts given by the people who
actually fought the fight against an evil?
I will have more questions as the time goes by. The topic on which I want to come
with above set of questions is, can we justify our actions and their consequences?
The solutions given by these stories which a lot of us, including myself try to use;
may be in permutations and combinations; to solve crisis situations, big or small.
Sometimes we get the desired result with desired consequences, sometimes we
dont. Depending on the outcome, our anger, rage, frustration, depression, etc.
feelings can swing between positive and negative directions, covering 360 degrees
of possibilities. Depending on how we feel, our behavior affect our surroundings. A
lot of times, the solutions described in the stories are being executed in controlled
and fictional environment, where anything can be possible. Heroes may not be
answerable for the consequences of the results and we may not know what happed
after that, as the story/solution is ended. As these situations may be far away from
reality, should we actually use these solutions as it is or should we use our own
brain to customize the solutions to adapt real life situations? I think everyone will
agree that we should customize solutions. Are we all capable to do that?
I will try to elaborate these questions and my stand on them in future. I think this
can set a thought-chain, for next discussion.
