EXPOSITORY TEXTS

Outline:
1. What is an expository text?
a. Examples of expository text.
b. Functions of an expository text.
c. Importance of expository texts.

Paragraph:
Expository texts are documents written with instructional or educational purpose.
Examples of expository texts are recipes, instruction manuals, languages books, city or country
guides, etc. Every time we need to know or we want to know how something works (a machine,
electronic device), how to cook a meal (pasta, lasagna, arepas) or how to speak a foreign
language (German, French, Japanese), an expository text is the best way to start. The expository
text introduce you to the topic you are approaching and shows you, step by step, the basic
information to begin learning or understanding it. As we see, expository texts are essential to
help people to guide themselves through a specific subject without the need of a third-party
participation in the process.
