Good Morning Ms. Rios,

I forwarded the email you sent to my gmail account to my City of Austin email because of its
nature.
I have taken a look at the messages and I will not deny it was me that corresponded with
Mr. Hugh Forrest at SXSW. I will say in defense, every year we would have Hugh and SXSW
stop by the commission to talk about the upcoming festival and what we can do to help
preserve the spirit of local digital inclusion since the program has gone from homegrown to
global. Along with the meetings, we as a commission have requested passes to the events
so we can attend various programs related to city technology and digital inclusion so we can
bring this back to the commission and talk about what we can do to help improve our city
engagement. Along with this request, we have always provided SXSW a written update of
what we have attended, learned and what next steps we can potentially take within our
commission.
As far as singling out the women mentioned in the complaint, I asked everyone after the
meeting what my intention is going to be to solicit SXSW for these passes and majority of
everyone declined and Mr. Pinaki chose not to take part in any conversation.
I respect there is a current complaint on the table and I have nothing to hide regarding my
comment(s). I have never had this issued so I do not know what steps I can take on my end
to defend my comments and intentions. If there were violations made, I take full
responsibility of my actions (hopefully excluding others) since I am the Chair of the
commission.
Thank you and please keep me posted.
Best,
Lemuel Williams
