their Honeybee life cycle.
Direct Instruction: The teacher will review with the students the life cycle of a honeybee and
their characteristics.
ADAPTATIONS (Exceptionality)
Teacher will provide step-by-step instructions and a picture word bank. The word bank will be
based on students that speak a second language and students that need reminders.

DIFFERENTIATION OF INSTRUCTION
Tier 1: Students will receive the honeybee project materials and simplified step-by-step
instructions. The students will complete the handout with the class.
Tier 2: Students will receive the honeybee project materials and must complete while following
the directions. They will complete the handout with the class.
Tier 3: Students will receive the honeybee project materials and must complete while following
the directions. Following the completion of the handout students will be able to read other books
on insects quietly and independently.
DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES

3. The teacher will also review the different stages of the life cycle with the class before
working on a handout.
4. Next the teacher will hand out the worksheet that students put the stages in order about
the honeybee.
5. Once the worksheets are completed, the teacher will introduce the honeybee life cycle
project.
6. Students will work independently creating a honeybee life cycle mobile with correct
labeling of each stage and the correct order of each.
7. Finally students will walk around the room looking at their classmates work.

ASSESMENT (artifacts and assessment [formal & informal])

The teacher will be assessing the students comprehension of the lesson by having the class
create and organize the stages of a honeybee life cycle.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
In Class: Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding on the topic by completing the
honeybee life cycle in the correct order.
Homework: Students will be able to draw their own honeybee following the directions provided.

FOLLOW-UP: DIRECT TEACHER INERVENTION AND ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Academic Enrichment: Students will be able to take a book about insects and read quietly while
the class completes their projects.
Direct Teacher Intervention: The teacher will work with students in a small group to create a
honeybee life cycle wheel for a better understanding.
