Question 4
Read the speech about home safety tips.
A very good morning to the principal Tuan Haji Shafiy bin Shaib, the assistant principal
Puan Nur Aishah Abdullah, dedicated teachers and fellow friends. In conjunction with
the Safety Week, I am here today to give a speech on safety at home. Nowadays, many
children are often left alone at home because their parents are away at work. Therefore,
it is of great importance that you learn some home safety tips.
Firstly, do not leave your house gates and front doors open. Make sure that you
never leave your house keys hanging on the doors. This serves as an invitation to wouldbe robbers and kidnappers to break into your homes easily.
Secondly, do not leave sharp objects like knives and scissors lying about in the
house. Keep them in the drawers when you are done with them. Many have sought
medical treatment in clinics and hospitals for cuts and bruises caused by these
potentially dangerous instruments left scattered around.
Then, turn off the gas stove and any electrical appliances when they are not in use.
Remember, short circuits may trigger fire mishaps when we connect too many electrical
appliances to one single socket. This is too often the cause of most fires in the home so
use them sensibly.
In addition, most fires happen when people are not careful with things that can
cause or start a fire. Matches are the common culprit. Therefore, always keep matches
away from children.
Finally, keeping a list of important telephone numbers that you can call in case of
an emergency can prove useful. These numbers should include the number of your
parents place of work, your neighbours, the nearest hospital and the police station.
I hope the talk has been useful. Thank you.

Dear Chandra,
How are you? I hope you are in the pink. Thank you for your recent letter. It is so wonderful
to hear from you! Let me tell you about how I spent my holidays.
Well, we went to Pantai Cendana as planned. We arrived at the beach rather early and got a fine
spot to lay out the food. As usual, my mother made sure there was enough food to feed an army.
Little Mira was excited beyond words when dad took out the new floats he bought. She could
not stop jumping up and down like a little monkey. We swam till our skins wrinkled up like
dried prunes. Later, we built sandcastles and Mira wanted to collect sea shells, so we obliged her.
We also bought you some souvenirs which I will be sending along with some snapshots.
Maybe, next time you can join us. If not, we could go fishing back at my village, then, we could
climb some trees and look for birds eggs. I know you would enjoy that very much. Please say
Yes this time.
Sorry, I must go. Till then I look forward to hearing from you. Write back soon! Bye.

How I Met Myself
The Railway Children

Jules Verne
David A. Hill
Edith Nesbit (retold by John Escott)

Based on one of the novels above, write about a character who you like the most.
Provide evidence from the text to support your response.
Write:
in not less than 50 words
in continuous writing (not in note form)
In the novel, The Railway Children the character I like the most is Roberta (Bobbie). Bobbie is the
eldest of the three siblings. I like Bobbie because she is very brave during a crisis like an adult. She is
brave during a landslide. When the 11.29 train comes, the driver cannot sees the trees and the rocks
across the railway line. The children wave the flags which are made from the girls petticoats.
Suddenly the two flags between the railway lines falls. Bobbie runs on to the railway line and waves
the flags until the train stopped although she is terrified and trembling. Her brave action saves the
train and the passengers.
Besides, Bobbie is brave during the paper chase. The children find Jim with a broken leg in the
tunnel. Peter wants to stay in the tunnel with her but Bobbie instructs him and Phyllis to go to the farm
and get help. She stays with Jim although she is afraid of being in the dark tunnel until Peter and
Phyllis brought some men from the farm come to help. These are the reasons why I like Bobbie the
most.
