TASK: Your group will create, develop and perform a collective creation. A collective creation is the product of
a cohesive theatre group's exploration of a given topic or idea through research and the improvisation of scenes
and characters. These improvisations are criticized and reworked until a basic shape for a play emerges under
the guidance of the teacher.
1. Your presentation will examine a theme or idea through various perspectives using a variety of dramatic
techniques, skills and components. You must include at least 3 of the various techniques/ skills/ components:
Tableau
Pantomime
Gestures
Creative movement
Physicality
Voice and Speech
Choral Speaking
Soundscapes
2. Within your group, you will brainstorm and decide how to use this semesters theme/overall idea of CHANGE
to explore dramatically. It is important to have clear objectives as an individual and as a class. What is the
purpose of your collective creation? What areas of the theme/overall idea are you interested in exploring? What
would you like to accomplish through your performance? Determine what these are before you begin creating
your presentation.
3. Discuss all ideas as a group and determine which ideas should be explored further. Research may be necessary
and can take many forms; the library, talking to people, looking at films and TV, listening to music, searching
the web (finding quotes, images, poems, newspaper and magazine articles, etc). Gather your research and share
your findings with the group. You may choose to explore ideas by improvising situations or conflicts related to
the theme/overall idea. Ask yourself What if? in order to begin exploring your ideas more deeply. The
important thing is to discuss, experiment and consult with each other.
4. You will write a script together for 4 people and ensure that it is typed and in proper script formatting with stage
directions and setting included.
5. Each person in the group will be responsible for all the production elements of the final performance (costumes,
props, script writing, music, lighting, tech cue sheets, dress rehearsals, etc). They will ensure these aspects of
the presentation are completed on time.
6. Each person in the group will have to complete 3 separate journal reflections throughout the duration of the
project. Details and due dates are outlined in the following page.
7. Each person in the group is responsible for jotting down notes and adjudications for each groups performance.
This may be a question on the final exam to reflect and discuss the final class performances.
8. After your performance, hand in all of your resources, script, notes, and final journals with your rubrics.

Journal Reflections:
Journal #1
Write about your personal connection to the theme/Overall Idea. How can you relate to the performance
you are about to create? What do you have to bring to the creative and collaborative processes? As well,
identify your strengths and weaknesses in Drama and set a personal goal for yourself. In what way
would you like to improve?
Journal #2
Describe your experience during the planning and rehearsal process. Explain the challenges and
successes you and your group members have faced. What did you do to contribute to the group process?
What task and maintenance roles did you need to take on to achieve your goal(s) and to keep the group
cohesive? What did this experience teach you about working with others? What would you do again and
what would you do differently?
Journal #3
Write a journal evaluating you and your group members contribution and commitment to the project.
Did you manage to meet or exceed your goals? How did you and your group members work together?
How was staging used? How effective were the blocking choices in conveying the characters attitudes
towards one another? Do you feel your performance was effective? Why or why not? What would you
do differently next time? Reflect on the development and strengthening of skills you may have acquired
this year through drama activities such as leadership, self-awareness, empathy, confidence, and a
willingness to take risks.
