The ultimate purpose of data analysis is to organize the data youve collected which will then allow your data to be presented in a meaningful way. Often, decision makers depend on data to make important
policy and procedural changes. If the collected data isnt well organized it cant be used, or even worse, it will be interpreted incorrectly.

While there are many qualitative data collection methods, the analysis of qualitative data is pretty much all the same. Use this 5 step process for all qualitative data.
Step 1 is to get to know your data. Read and re-read the text.. Write down your first impressions. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the data you collected
and the limitations of that data.
Step 2 is to focus your analysis. Decide upon a few questions you want your analysis to answer and write them down.
Step 3 is sometimes referred to as coding data. As you read and re-read the text you will determine categories that fit the data. Then you go back through the data
and mark each chunk of data with the appropriate category.
During step 4 you look for patterns and connections within categories and between them. You may have to make judgements about the importance of outlying data.
And the last step step 5 is where you assign meaning to your data. A good place to start here is to make a list of important points or key findings.
A good piece for more detailed information come from UW-Extension, Analyzing Qualitative Data
Add a button that says, Click for more information and link it to the UW-Extension piece noted above. It should open in a new tab.

One way to analyze quantitative data is simply by number counting. You may count how many times something occurred or how many responses fit in a certain category. Hover over each item below to see
examples.

When hovering over how many times something occurred show Seven of 10 youth who participated in the program were female. When hovering over How many responses fit in
a category show 14 of the 16 participants self-reported increasing their comfort with science by participating in the program. Text will gray out when selected.

Calculating percentages is another way to analyze quantitative data. Percentages are used frequently because they are easy to understand, they show relationships
between categories of data and they can show the frequency distribution of grouped data. For an example of each, hover over the text.
When hovering over Easy to interpret show 20% of Iowa youth are reached by the Iowa 4-H program. When hovering over Show relationships between
categories show While 86% of respondents indicated that they enjoy science, only 23% said that they ever explored science at home. When hovering over Show
frequency distribution of grouped data, show 80% of participating youth live in rural areas or towns under 10,000. Fifteen percent came from towns with
populations of 10,000 30,000. The remaining 5% came from towns over 30,000. Text will gray out once selected.

Description:

Another quantitative analysis method is central tendency. This is a method used to describe the middle of the group. Most often central tendency calculates the mean, mode or median. Mean is the average
and is calculated by adding up the sum of all of the data for an item and then dividing by the number of items. This is often used in describing results from rating scales.
Mode is the response that is given most frequently and median is the value that represents the exact midpoint of the data, when data is arranged from one extreme to the other. One advantage of median and
mode is that they arent as affected by extremes in your data. For examples of each, hover over the text.

When hovering over Central Tendency: mean, mode and median show a chart with the information shown in the Notes below. Text should go gray once selected.

Variability is another way to analyze quantitative data. Variability communicates the level of variation among the data. Three measures of variability are range, standard deviation and variance. Range shares
the full spectrum of values -highest and lowest. Standard deviation is the degree that the average value varies from the mean. Variance is the square of the standard deviation. While standard deviation and
variance are common in research projects and journal articles, range is more commonly used to describe program evaluation data. For an example of range, hover over the range text.

When hovering over range show The number of projects 4-H members enroll in ranges from 1 to 12. Text will gray out once selected.

must align with the purpose for your evaluation. Each decision you make in your evaluation plan connects to others.

Create a quiz with the bulleted items as options and allow multiple responses. When bullets 1, 2 and 4 and selected, a layer should come and say You are correct.
These are methods consistent with quantitative data selection. The layer should include a continue button that is linked to slide #20. Any other response will have
the following feedback on a layer This is incorrect. Remember quantitative data can only be analyzed using quantitative methods. There are several quantative
techniques. Please try again. Then the layer would disappear and selections would be cleared, if possible.
