What is the MYP? The Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework is part of the International Baccalaureate
continuum of student-centred learning and teaching, which is grounded in the learner profile.
How are students assessed? Through a variety of tasks,
students are assessed in four criteria in each discipline. Each
criterion is a description of a required standard outlining
what an exemplary piece of work should include. There is a
maximum score of 8 for each criterion and the scores
obtained for each criterion are combined to make a score out
of 32. Grade boundaries are applied so that each student
receives an overall grade for a subject, between 1 (low) and
7 (high). The grade boundaries for all subjects are seen in the
table below.

How do I read the VSA report card? Under the subject heading, the scores attained for each of the criteria are given
(out of 8). This is the level at which the student is currently working. Since each subject requires different skills and
knowledge, each subject group has different criteria. Students are encouraged to digest the criteria and to use them to
understand how they learn and how they can improve.
Approaches to Learning Skills: The Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are designed to help students understand and
become proactive in the ways in which they learn. The aim of the ATL skills is to promote successful lifelong learners
who have acquired skills of effective thinking and learning. Given these skills, students will be equipped to face a
variety of challenges in their secondary education and beyond. Teachers report on an area of strength and an area for
improvement in each subject using the following framework:

Homeroom Teacher's Comment
Kobe has shown himself to be an exemplary student this year. Kobe demonstrates a mature
approach to his studies and is starting to exercise leadership. He is always friendly and polite,
and presents himself well. He can, at times, offer insightful thoughts in LPD. His extracurricular dedication to Maths, Basketball and Orchestra is to be commended. He is making a
valuable contribution to the school community. Next year he must commence the service
component of CAS. Well done for a great start to the MYP, Kobe!

Year 6 is an adaptation year for MYP CAS. As such, we acknowledge that students may not yet be
involved in a range of sustainable CAS opportunities. It is therefore perfectly acceptable for a Year 6
student to be "developing" in respect of all the Criteria on the CAS report above. CAS levels are
awarded in the order of: Developing, Advocating, Linking, Mastering
