AP Capstone Part A (I didnt get the assignment

before I left)
1. The authors main idea revolves around the premise of sleep and the
effects of a lack of it. Her claim is that how we wake up in the status
quo is harmful in the long run.
2. The authors line of reasoning is very simple and easy to understand.
Her claim is that the way we wake up leads to sleep inertia, or
perpetual grogginess. The author first evaluates sleep inertia in the
status quo- where the way a person wakes up affects future sleep. This
ties the narrative intro into her claim on sleep inertia. She shows a
logical cycle, and defends it with hard evidence to show that sleep is
super important. Moreover, the author looks at empirical evidence,
showing the effects of sleep inertia and how it destroys someones
circadian rhythm. Finally, the author looks at solutions to the issue at
hand. It all boils down to sleep and waking up naturally, not forced.
Since the evidence is so strong, it paves the way for an effective
solution- showing the importance of sleep in the long term.
3. The author uses a plethora of incredible evidence to support her

argument. First, the historical reference on sleep inertia. While it may

not seem important, this ties the whole piece together, as it defines
the long-term effect of the problem. Its the most unbiased source and
the most factual. The next source is Kenneth Wright, a neuroscientist,
who discusses the circumstances for sleep inertia in comparison to

healthy sleep. This source can be grouped with the other medical
sources, showing accurate data and analysis to support the authors
argument. On face, the evidence in the argument is superb, as its
unbiased and informative.
