Call for participation in 2016 HIV/AIDS survey

STAKEHOLDERS and the
general public were obliged to
participate fully in 2016 Tanzania

Government to get official data
for proper planning of its
development programmes.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam during

meeting
of

of the National Bureau of
Statistics (NBS), Dr. Albina
Chuwa, said the Government
needs quality data for proper
planning and it was mandatory
for every individual to provide
accurate information to data

NBS, in collaboration with other
stakeholders, is now ready to run
a survey of 2016THIS
countrywide,
the
early
preparation of households listing
was successfully done. Were
now in the final stages before we
go to enumeration area to collect
health and related information
and my hope that those whose
houses would be selected, they
should be ready for testing and
provide accurate information,
said Dr. Chuwa.

The NBS boss said the

2016THIS would be a unique
survey to be conducted in
Tanzania, especially in the health
sector, compared to three
previous
studies
about
HIV/AIDS as it would include
people from all age groups and
provide results of the HIV testing
immediately after test.
She added that, the 2016THIS
will include indicators estimates
only HIV/AIDS of all ages and it
will enable the Government to
know the status of HIV for those
persons aged 0 to 17 years and --

adults.
Moreover, Dr. Chuwa said
under Implementation of
Sustainable
Development
Goals (SDGs), Goal 3: which
requires every nation to ensure
healthy lives and promote
well-being for all people at all
ages; Tanzania will use the
findings of 2016THIS to
deliver its report on how far it
has achieved to combat this
disease and how it would
ensure that every affected
citizen is treated equally
without discrimination.

success
SUCCEFUL implementation of the
2016 Tanzania HIV Impact Survey
(2016THIS) depends very much on
the participation of communication
experts and community mobilisers,
especially when it comes to
awareness creation.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam during a
Communication Experts Technical
Working Group workshop, the ICAP
Country Deputy Director and
Director for 2016THIS, Dr.
Veronicah Mugisha said people
awareness was crucial towards
ensuring the survey was a success.
We are now about to start the 2016
Tanzania HIV Impact Survey
(2016THIS), its a complicated
survey to some people as most fear
to be tested at their doorsteps. But
what they need is to be well
informed with positive messages in
order to change their attitudes; right
messages will be delivered to them
by communication experts and
community mobilisers, said Dr.
Mugisha.
She said communication experts and
community mobilisers play a vital
role in mobilising the general public
towards issues which are to be
carried out in the country and need
direct participation of the society.

She urged communication

experts
and
community
mobilizers to use all methods
possible -- both traditional and
emerging ones -- in mobilising
and sensitising people to
participate in the survey and get
tested.
The director called for use of
such emerging technologies as
social media networks and
online radio and TV services to
reach more people in diverse
geographic locations so as to
reach the targeted audiences.

She argued that the success of

the 2016THIS survey would
very much depend on the
efficiency of community
mobilisation by the relevant
experts.
Dr. Mugisha said it was
important that the message
should be delivered in such a
manner that it would elicit
positive responses, whereby
people would be given hope.
