6 SEC. 3008. (a) CRIMINAL OFFENSE.—Section 704 of

7 title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the
8 end the following new subsection:
9 ‘‘(c) FRAUDULENT REPRESENTATION OF MILITARY
10 SERVICE.—Whoever knowingly makes a fraudulent state-

1 ment or representation, verbally or in writing, regarding
2 the person’s record of military service in the United States
3 Armed Forces, including, but not limited to, participation
4 in combat operations, for the purposes of gaining recogni-
5 tion, honorarium, official office, or other position of au-
6 thority, employment or other benefit or object of value as
7 a result of the statement, shall be fined under this title,
8 imprisoned not more than six months, or both.’’.
9 (b) CONFORMING AMENDMENTS.—
10 (1) HEADING AMENDMENT.—The heading of
11 such section is amended to read as follows:
12 ‘‘§ 704. Military medal or decorations; military serv-
13 ice’’.

14 (2) TABLE OF SECTIONS.—The table of sections

15 at the beginning of chapter 33 of such title is
16 amended by striking the item relating to section 704
17 and inserting the following new item:
‘‘704. Military medal or decorations; military service.’’.
