There are two main types of social problems. Subjective nature of social
problems differs by a particular audience at different times. The true
definition at matter determines whether or not it is a social problem or not.
When there are harmful conditions in society that brings troubles to our
population, such as poverty or racism, this is considered an objective
reality of social problems.
Karl Marx viewed our social institutions depending heavily on the basic
economy. He also believed that use of government, religion and the
educational system were the best ways to maintain power. He envisioned
that free enterprise would result in corporations growing enormously in size
and power, in which monopolies would take over. Karl Marx said the
contradictions inherent in capitalism were due to monopolies (which
eliminated competition), lack of centralized planning, demands for labor-
saving machinery, and control of the state by the wealthy.
