MAYOR DEAN NAMES DEPUTY MAYOR

Congressman Cooper’s chief of staff to join administration

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2007) – Mayor Karl Dean announced today that Greg Hinote,
chief of staff for U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper, is joining his administration as deputy mayor.

“Greg has an extensive knowledge of Nashville, having worked in the public and private sector,”
Dean said. “He is the right person to help me move Nashville forward. I am eager to begin
working with him on my priorities and a number of other opportunities facing our city.”

Hinote has served as Cooper’s chief of staff since 2003, joining his congressional office after
managing his campaign in 2002. Prior to that, Hinote worked in private business in Nashville for
eight years.

“Greg has been an invaluable partner for me and I know he will serve Mayor Dean’s
administration with the same integrity and skill that has benefited my office for the past four
years,” Cooper said.

Hinote said: “This role is really an extension of what I’ve been doing since 2002. What excites
me the most is to spend every day, all day on issues that directly affect Nashvillians.”

Hinote received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a master’s of
business administration from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management.
