OBJECTIVES

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
At the end of our 3 days duty in Digos Provincial Hospital, we student nurses of
BSN – 3B, will be able to gain new knowledge and information about Diabetes Mellitus
type 2 including its management. With this, we aim to present a comprehensive, detailed
and thorough case study.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Specifically, we aim to:
a. Establish a good working relationship with our client and as well as with the
client’s significant others;
b. gather significant and necessary information about the client that can be used as a
basis later on;
c. formulate an introduction which can initially provide information about the case
study;
d. enumerate measurable, accurate and realistic objectives;
e. trace the hereditary diseases of the patient’s lineage and present it through the use
of genogram;
f. gather pertinent information about the client’s past and present history of illness;
g. present a definition of the complete diagnosis from 4 different sources;
h. thoroughly assess the patient from head to toe as well as his mental status;
i. discuss the anatomy and physiology of the affected system;
j. trace and discuss the pathophysiology of the complete diagnosis with regards to
disease process as well as it’s etiology and symptomatology and present it in
diagram and narrative form;

k. present the diagnostic examinations that the patient undergone together with the
results and it’s normal values, significance of the exam and rationale behind it;
l. identify and categorize the drugs given to our patient and know the significant
information why it was given to our patient;
m. discuss the actual and possible management that was done and should be done to
the patient and present it comprehensively;
n. formulate nursing care plans based on the identified problems in the condition of
the patient;
o. create a discharge planning that can supply additional information to the patient
and;
p. Discuss the prognosis of the client’s condition basing on the criteria given.
