Where Should My Money Go?

(Short Sermonette)

Where does it come from?

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 - You make the money, but God gives you the ability to do it.

Who has legal claim over it?

Haggai 2:8 “'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty.”

So where do you fit in?

1. 2 Corinthians 8:1-4 - Give entirely on your own (i.e. no peer pressure).
a. 2 Corinthians 9:7 – The only ones included in the decision process are
you and the Holy Spirit.

2. 2 Corinthians 8:7 – Check your motives for either giving or withholding.

a. Haggai 1:5-11 – Seek first the kingdom (Matthew 6:33)

3. 2 Corinthians 8:10-12 – Once willing, make sure you actually give; and give
according to what you have.
a. 2 Corinthians 8:13-14 – Don’t allow giving to take away your joy or
make you look down on others because you think they aren’t carrying
their weight.

Where should it go?

1. 2 Corinthians 8:4 - To needy Christians among you.
a. 2 Corinthians 9:12-13 – As a result, they will praise God.

2. 2 Corinthians 11:7-9 – To support ministries you approve of.

3. 1 Corinthians 9:11-14 – To those who’ve sown into your life.

a. 1 Corinthians 9:12b – The one who sowed may not want your money.
b. Galatians 6:6 – Usually this is giving to the local church you attend.

4. Romans 15:26-27 – To Jews who are truly Jews (i.e. Christian Jews advancing
the kingdom)
