Like a shadow boxer

lanky limbs hide the real intentions

of movement behind speed and grace.
Muscles ripple and neck cranes
but no distinguishable connection,
no contact of leather
against soft kidney,
no jaw line cracked,
no eye puffed out
and blind.
Back lit the form is a veil
obscured by veils.
Darkness dancing on the wall
tells a story, plot hidden
behind a flurry of description,
no action, no relief,
no hope for conquest,
only movement and precision,
an invocation without
manifestation.
All the flesh and sweat
and muscle of the fight
but nothing made real,
no pain, or blood,
no bruises, or scrapes,
no swelling and no death.
Dancing all potential
against the stillness
of the wall,
painting the scene
with movement
and speed and grace.
Only memory left,
a flittering resonance
of light and shade,
The sole artifact
Ring Master Meditates of the impact
For E. Miller of shadow and wall.
