Description
The GEPON system uses a single optical fiber for both
upstream and downstream transmission. Downstream
traffic is sent via 1490nm wavelength and upstream
traffic uses the 1310nm wavelength. The 1550nm
wavelength is reserved for future CATV or wavelength
division multiplex (WDM) upgrading. It is a fiber to the
home (FTTH) platform providing up to 1Gb/s Ethernet
data and optionally video and voice on IP(VoIP) services
to commercial and residential end users.
