East Fork Of The Bitterroot River Road Project .

MT PFH 78(1)

9/19/2010

Areas of construction begin to thin out as contractor finishes the roadway in prep for paving. The
paving plant moved into the Wetzseon pit is nearly set up and ready to begin. The first of the hot
mix should come out to the road Tuesday or Wednesday, The contractor will begin by placing a
three inch lift on the sub-excavated areas and do some minor leveling and wedging across the
existing pavement. A test strip will be paved starting at the School Bus turnaround and working
toward the main highway. A test strip is a controlled length of roadway where the hot asphalt is
tested for conformance to specifications. If every thing is Ok the paving will continue or the mix will
be adjusted and new tests completed. It is anticipated to pave over all the gravel sections with at
least 2" of pavement then back up and place 2" over the entire roadway. Paving should be
completed in three weeks working Mondays thru Saturday weekly.

The paving operation will be covered with a pilot car and flaggers. It is important to stay in the lane
with the pilot car and avoid the fresh oil and pavement. Traffic could be delayed up to 30 minutes as
it is piloted thru the paving areas.

Mid Tuesday morning we will have a milling machine on the Bridge across the East Fork near
Springer. The milling machine operation will be covered with flaggers and access should not be
interrupted for more than a couple of hours. Delays will be kept to less than 30 minutes. The
pavement is being scarified from the bridge, loaded in to a end dumps, and taken up the road to low
areas in the template where it will be processed and laid back into the roadway.

We will have flaggers with the process crew that is working the roadway ahead of paving, cleaning
some of the ditches in the reconstruction and sub-excavation areas and completing other minor work
along the project.
