Romans 5:1-11

1. In Romans 5:1-11, what is Paul’s perspective upon salvation? Is

salvation a present possession? Is it something that we do not yet
have? Is it something for which we yet wait? Compare Paul’s use of
“justify” in 5:1-11 with its use in Roman 2:13. What is the orientation
of Paul’s expression “hope of the glory of God” (1:2)? Be clear in your
response.

2. Note the future tense of the repeated phrase “we shall be saved”
(5:9, 10). What is the significance of the future tense in these
verses? Why does Paul use it? From what are we to be saved,
according to Paul? Do you need to adjust your understanding of
“salvation” in view of Paul’s perspective here? How?
