MURTHAL, SONEPAT-131039(HARYANA)
(Established Under Haryana Legislature Act No.29 of 2006
and recognized under 12b of the UGC Act, 1956)
DEENBANDHU CHHOTU RAM

24 November 1881- 09 January 1945

Born on 24th November, 1881 in Garhi Sampla (a village in Jhajjar district of Haryana) in the family
of Ch. Sukhi Ram and Mrs. Sirya Devi, Chhotu Ram was a renowned educationist and named as
the Father of Reforms for farmers. He established Jat Anglo Sansthan on 26th March, 1913 after
completion of his graduation in Law. In 1916, he became President of Congress Party and
continued till 1919. He remained as Development Minister from 1937 to 1945 after his party came
into power. He was conferred with prestigious awards like Rai Bahadur (1919), Deenbandhu
(1942), Rehbar-e-azam (1944). Besides being a luminary figure in agricultural and educational
reforms, he was involved in various developmental policies for joint Punjab including Bhakhra
Power Project.

The Government of Haryana has appropriately named the University after this illustrious son of the
soil of joint Punjab. His personality will not only inspire the students and staff of this University but
also encourage and motivate them to rise from ab-initio to crescendo in their respective fields, as
he had a passion for education.
MESSAGE

H.S.CHAHAL
VICE-CHANCELLOR

It gives me great pleasure to welcome the prospective students to the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram
University of Science and Technology, Murthal (Haryana). This State University, established by
the Act of Legislature, has the objective of providing higher technical and professional education to
all those who aspire for it. The University is committed to excel in teaching, training, capacity-
building, scholarship, research and public service.

The University with its strong base of administration, infrastructure and qualified faculty, has
completed three years of commendable service towards enhancing quality of engineering
education. Towards its mission of advancement of learning & research, the University has set
strategies of giving utmost importance to the problems and needs of the people and region. The
University has built up a comprehensive infrastructure and facilities within its campus, which
include Central Library, Computer Centre, Laboratories, Health Centre, Hostels, Guest House,
Conference Rooms, Canteen, etc.. Convention Centre, Resource Centre and Tennis Academy are
large projects which have been taken up in full swing.

Being a centre of higher learning, the University has placed research activities at its top most
priority. Our vision is to establish ourselves on the academic map of the state in particular and in
the country as a whole in the field of Science and Engineering with setting up of Centers of
Excellence. In doing so, the University will keep in focus the enhancement of the quality of
research, introduction of courses which have a global acceptance and adoption of latest
technology for fruitful academic collaborations. No University can flourish without research.
Research will have ties with industry. Industry ties shall make the University self-sustainable.

University is on its way to be known as a centre of quality research, international publications and
for its best standards. With this determination, University is sure that it will be able to make a mark
soon on the international education map.

We are on the move and gaining momentum every day. At present there are 100 plus institutions
awarding B.Tech. degree in the State of Haryana admitting approximate 32,000 students.
Admissions open to Diploma holders directly in 2nd year is limited to only 10% of the sanctioned
seats and vacant seats if any (approx. 5000 seats) through Lateral Entry Entrance Test (LEET)
against approximate 40,000 students passing Diploma every year in the state of Haryana.

Looking at the large number of Diploma holders employed in the nearby industries and willing to
upgrade their qualifications, we have decided to start B.Tech. (Weekend) programme in the
university. This will give them a chance to upgrade their qualification and improve their professional
capabilities to take up new challenges confronting them.

Best wishes,
(Har Sarup Chahal)

It is needless to say that higher qualification enhances effectiveness and satisfaction at work place.
Due to some or the other reasons, many people do not get opportunity to improve their
qualifications. There are thousands of diploma holders working in industries/institutions who aspire
to upgrade their qualifications. Many people get admission under Lateral Entry Entrance Test
(LEET) but owing to limited number of seats, all willing candidates do not get admission. Looking at
the demand of prospective candidates, the University has started B. Tech. (Weekend) Programme
in several disciplines w.e.f. 2010-11. The classes shall be held on Saturday-Sunday. The scheme
of examination, syllabus etc. have been designed to suit working professionals.
