Shafé Gaplry vgean Flange coupling — K/G/D ‘The flange coupling is a widely used rigid coupling which is capable of transmitting large torques. It consists of two cast iron flanges, as shown in Figure 144, which are keyed to the. shaft ends and bolted together. Flange couplings have the advantage of simplicity in design, low cost and are available in standard sizes conforming to IS:6196~ 1971. Flange-connected shafts must be. accurately aligned to prevent bending or any other type of failure. In order to ensure true axial aligament, a register is provided on the flange. For safety against openly exposed sviating nuts and bolt heads, a circumferential flange Js provided.
