Of Storage Devices
Storage Devices
• A data storage device is a device for recording
(storing) information (data).
• Recording can be done using virtually any
form of energy, spanning from manual muscle
power in handwriting, to acoustic vibrations in
phonographic recording, to electromagnetic
energy modulating magnetic tape and optical
discs.
• A storage device may hold information,
process information, or both. A device that
only holds information is a recording medium.
Product Life Cycle : Tape drive
• A tape drive is a data storage device
that reads and writes data stored on
a magnetic tape.
• A tape drive provides sequential
access storage, unlike a disk drive,
which provides random access
storage.

TRANSITIONAL PHASE I
Product Life Cycle : Disk drives
• Disk storage is a general category of
storage mechanisms, in which data
are digitally recorded by various
electronic, magnetic, or optical on a
surface layer deposited of one or
more round and rotating platters.

TRANSITIONAL PHASE II
Product Life Cycle : Flash drives
• Flash memory is a non-volatile
computer storage that can be
electrically erased and
reprogrammed. It is a technology
that is primarily used in memory
cards and USB flash drives for
general storage and transfer of data
between computers and other digital
products.

Product Life Cycle : Cyborg
• A cyborg is a cybernetic organism
(i.e. an organism that has both
artificial and natural systems).
