The Firehouse Gallery, 135 Church St, Burlington As we consider the future of the Vermont Yankee it is relevant to remember that on April 26, 1986, the worst non-military nuclear disaster in history occurred in Chernobyl, Ukraine. The fall-out from that disaster traveled world-wide and radiated the milk of Vermont cows. Actual words of Chernobyl survivors -- nuclear scientists, widows of soldiers who contained the fire, parents of children affected -- will be spoken. These testimonies were collected by Ukrainian journalist, Svetlana Alexievich for her book, Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster. After the one-hour performance we will discuss the meaning of Chernobyl for Vermont today. Sponsored by Peace and Justice Center; Peace, Justice and Earthcare Committee of Burlington Friends Meeting; Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance; Citizens Action Network; Anti- Violence Partnership at University of Vermont; and the Institute for Civic Engagement of Burlington College
