SIEMENS Power operated point machine Bsg. antr. 9i with Internal Locking Applications The point machine fitted with internal locking serves to throw heel chair points, spring points as wellas resilient tongue points havinig no point lock. The point machine fulfills the following requirements Throwing of points, retaining point tongues in end position, locking point tongues in end position, electric detection of point tongue positions. The point machine, ie. its moving direction, can be reversed during the throw-over process. Inthe case of mains breakdown, the point machine can be hand:-thrown, Design ‘A cast-iron housing with lockable sheet steel cover contains the motor with gear, gearing clutch, toothed racks and locking devices, detector slides and the switching device ‘The point machine is mountable on two extended sleep- ers. For connecting the 4-core cable for the control and checking current, a cable connecting block with con- necting line is provided. Mode of operation ‘The rotary motion of the motor is converted via a gear wheel transmission into a rectilinear movement of the toothed racks. Via attached point operating rods, the throwover power is transmitted from the gear racks to the point. The detector slides and the locking rods are moved via attached rods by the point tongues. With non-trailable point machines the gear rack and the locking rod are locked. The locking is effected by a segment engaging in locking curves of the gear rack! locking rods, respectively. Technical Data Characteristic and operating figures Kind of Current and voltage of motor a) 120V ie »)380v, GAC | esi Bsg, antr. L | |i LL The point detector rods engaging on the detector slides check whether the point tongues have followed the ‘movement of the point machine, have reached the end position, the lock is secured, and whether the end position of point and point machine correspond, On reaching the end position, the switching unit in the Point machines cuts off the control current, prepares a new reversing process and indicates - in conjunction with the relay unit in the interlocking cabin - the end position of the point. Should in the case of failure the end position have not been reached, the motor freewheels in the clutch, until itwillbe switched off by the relay unt, with a subsequent fault indication. On requirement, the point machines can be hand- thrown by means of a orank. In this case a voltage cut-out switch prevents with absolute safety any inad- vertent electric rotation of the motor. This machines has only a single gear rack laid out for a, possible stroke in maximum. Lower strokes require a compensating fork. The point tongues are rigidly inter- connected and they are moved by the action of the one gear rack. A locking rod, having an adjustable stroke, is taken along by the point tongues. With this feature a reciprocal proving is ensured. Ifthe rodding connection to the gear rack should fracture, the point tongues no longer follow the movement of the locking rod. Should the rodding to the locking rod fracture, the latter is no longer taken along. In both cases the locking segment is unable to engage in the locking curve, the machine fails to reach an end position but freewheels in the clutch until the power is automatically cut-off by the point relay unit in the signal cabin. Ancillary equipment ‘The point machine is mounted on two extended (extra long) sleepers. Owing to the fact that the deflections and oscillations of the running rails ~ when these are passed by trains ~ are directly conveyed to the ma- Chine, a rigid cable connection is not recommendable A exible connecting cable established the connection to the terminals in the point machine housing. as View slrecton of arows X¥ aon acton w vita te ‘task Rod § : “*Applies to M.G. 98 well Circuit ‘SA'= Votage cutout swith { oy eee 7 ; : 7 “ 2 ‘4 Wre-Diect Curent Circuitry 4 wie 2 Phase Cicuity Assembly and Disassembly of Principal Parts Caution Switch off power before removing housing cover. Motor The motors are fastened by two screws and their posi- tion in the housing is fixed by two fiting pins. Disassembly: After disconnecting motor leads, unscrew two fastening screws and lift out motor. Assembly: Place motor on fiting pins and screw tight. Motor pinion must mesh with gear rim of transmission clutch, Reconnect motor leads. After unscrewing of one hexagon screw each, the guide flanges on the sides of the housing can be lifted off. Transmission assembly is turned manually until locking segment has cleared locking curve. The gear racks can now be lifted out of the hous- ing. Disassembly: Assembly: Proceedinreverse orderof disassembly. Atter installing the first gear rack, locking segment is made to engage in locking curve by manually rotating transmission assembly. Now, the second rack is in- stalled and the locking segment turned until it also ‘engages in the locking curve of the second gear rack ‘Transmission assembly Disassembly: After unscrewing of two screws from each pedestal, the gearing assembly can be lifted off the fiting pins. ‘Assembly: Proceed in reverse order of disassem- iy. Detector slides Disassembly: Both detecting slides can be drawn sideways and simultaneously out of the housing, ‘Assembly: For rendering possible the liting-out of the switching levers, move the point machine out of the ‘end position by manually cranking. After that, slide the laid together detecting slides into the guide flange. Taking into Operation Prior to taking point machine into operation. fill up motor transmission housing, via oil filer with engine oil until this emerges out of overtiow pipe. As a certain time will elapse until the oil saturated felt pad and flows through hole into the transmission compartment, the filing-up is best done in stages and with quantities of approx. 10 ccm, in order to keep the amountof excessive oil, which will eventually emerge out of the overtiow pipe, as small as possible. 3-Phase, 4 wire, 380V - 50 c/s Circuit 1, The arrangements of the motor contacts is in such a way that they form a star connection with respect to the motor winding. For operating the motor initially, one phase is connected to the neutral point of the point supply transformer over one motor coil. whereas the other full phase voltage will be applied to the other two motor coils. After the changeover of the motor contacts while starting, the neutral point in the motor is established, which remains until the points reach the end positions or until the operating voltage is cut-off after a preset time interval 2. The detection circuit is 60 V D.C. as in the case of a normal point machine with 110 V D.C. motor. 3. All the cable cores leading to the motor and also the coils are continuously detected. 4. By limiting the cable cores required to 4, the circui- toryis less susceptible 0 faults and detection of fault is also simpler. 5. With a cable conductor of size 1.5 mm a machine upto a distance of even 4 km could be operated, Maintenance Construction of point machines Bsg. antr. 9iis such that it will render dependable service with litle mainte- nance. Hints to be observed when working on point machines NOTE : Notify operation personnel of interlocking plant before carrying-out any work whatsoever on electric Point machines. Cable conductors are to be discon- ected from point machine in appropriate places. It work is to be done under traffic conditions, points passed by trains should be secured with a hand lock. ‘After termination of the work, and before reporting'all clear for operation’, check for correct normal position, i.e. conformity of point switch or point position indication ‘on the panel respectively and position of the points in, the field. Repeatedly reverse the point machine to ‘check correctness of circuitry (wiring) Routine maintenance Lubricate all external nipples of machines (approx. 10 grease gun strokes) after 10,000 operations of the point machine or at 6-months' intervals in the case of less frequently operated point machines. NOTE : It is not equired to remove point machine cover to carry out the above task. Use a non-corrosive grease suited for the ambient temperature conditions. Annual maintenance The following maintenance tasks should be carried out, after approximately 100.000 operations, or with less frequently used points, once annually Lubricate thoroughly all internal and exterior lubricating points. Bearing are equipped with grease nipples and ‘a grease gun is use for lubrication. Wipe off all super- fluous grease from nipples to prevent clogging General lubricating hints : 1. Internally located lubricating pads for the locking curve: approximately 10 com oll per oil filler opening 2. Both grease nipples of the transmission clutch each approximately 20 grease gun strokes 3. Grease nipples of contact assemble level bearings: each approximately 4 grease gun strokes 4. Spring guides of contact assembly: each appro: mately 10 drops spindle cil 5. Top up oil reservoir of motor transmission (see sec- tion "Taking into Operation’).
