Excise for Manufacturer in Tally.ERP 9 can handle statutory and business requirements in a
simplified manner. Various features of Tally.ERP 9 with relevant use cases which can benefit
you are given below:

1. Purchase order/ sales order/ receipt note/ delivery note with excise details

In this transaction you can account the purchase/sales order with excise duty ledgers.
Purchase order /sales orders can be tracked along with excise details in the receipt/ delivery
note and later in the purchase / sales invoice.

2. Excise purchase voucher - availing CENVAT credit

Purchases made by you (manufacturer) can be recorded with the details of CENVAT credit
availed.

3. Excise purchase voucher – without availing CENVAT credit


Buy or Move to
Purchases made by you (manufacturer) can be recorded without availing the CENVAT credit
in the same voucher. You can select the excise duty ledgers (grouped under duties & taxes
Tally.ERP 9
and duty type as excise) when you do not want to avail CENVAT credit. Non-availed
CENVAT credit will get apportioned to the stock item.

Note: non-availed credit can be availed by passing a separate debit note later at any point of
time.

4. Purchases from excise dealers (first / second stage dealers) - availing CENVAT credit

a. Avail CENVAT credit on purchases in the same invoice.


In this case the actual purchase cost and CENVAT credit amount can be calculated on your
(manufacturer’s) assessable value. To avail the CENVAT credits select the CENVAT type of
excise duty ledgers.

b. Avail CENVAT credit on purchases by recording a separate debit note.


i. Record purchase as per the invoice received
ii. Record a separate debit note to avail the credit on your (manufacturer’s) assessable
value.

5. Purchases from Importers - availing CENVAT credit

a. Avail CENVAT credit on purchases (in the same invoice).


In this case the actual purchase cost and CENVAT credit amount (calculated on your
(manufacturer) assessable value). To avail the cenvat credits select the CENVAT type of
Excise duty ledgers

b. Avail CENVAT Credit on purchases (later by recording a separate debit note).


i. Record purchase as per the invoice received
ii. Record a separate debit note to avail the credit on your (manufacturer’s) assessable
value.

6. Availing partial CENVAT credit

You can avail the partial CENVAT credit in the debit note based on the quantity and
assessable value as per the requirement.

7. CENVAT credit on capital goods (purchase voucher)

To account the purchase of capital goods, you can record a purchase entry, and avail
CENVAT credit of the duty paid by recording a debit note, in the relevant years (50% in the
financial year in which the capital goods is purchased and remaining in any subsequent
financial Years) as per the act.

8. Selection of same stock item multiple times (purchase/ sales voucher)

In excise purchase/ sales voucher you can select the same stock item multiple times, duties
corresponding to the item will be computed accordingly.
Example: ABC Company placed 2 purchase orders for Item A, on 1-5-2009 for 200
Quantities @ Rs. 50 and on 4-5-2009 @ Rs.45. Against both the purchase orders goods was
delivered on 10-5-2009. This can be accounted in one purchase invoice.

9. Record a manufacturing journal

To account the manufacture of finished goods, you can pass a manufacturing journal.

10. Excise sales voucher -rule 11 invoice

Record an excise sales invoice and generate rule 11 invoice.

In an excise sales invoice you can select the stock items falling under different valuation
types (MRP, advalorem or ad quantum), Tally.ERP 9 calculates the excise duty based on the
valuation type and generates rule 11 invoice for the same

11. Rule 11 invoice for stock items with expenses

In an excise sales invoice you can select the expenses incurred towards the sales which are
part of the transaction. The expenses cost can be apportioned (based on the quantity/ value)
to the stock items and duty will be calculated including the expenses and rule 11 invoice for
the same will be generated.

12. Sales at special rate


In this case you can record excise sales where the excise duty applicable is lower than
standard rate of duty.

13. Exempt/ export sales

You can record export sales and exempt sales.

14. Creating a debit note (purchase returns) rule 11 invoice

You can record purchase returns and generate rule 11 invoices.

15. Payment of Excise Duty

a. Fortnightly Payment of Duty


b. Monthly payment of Duty
c. Excise Duty payment entry can be recorded in Payment Vouchers.
