Sound to me like your video amp failed on the C board. This board connects directly to the back of the
CRT tube. It actually has the letter C on it. The video amp is IC702, PN: TDA6108JF. You can locate a
vendor for the part by googling the provided PN. This amp is fairly cheap and not too difficult to
replace if you can use a soldering iron. However, you must apply heatsink compound or it will over
heat and fail more quickly. You should be able to get a tube from the same vendor as the amp. I hope
this was helpful, best wishes.

Understanding Sony Television

Blinking Codes
By Larry Dillon + Share

Many of the later model Sony TV’s have a built in self-

diagnosis function. If the timer/standby indicator is blinking,
this could be an indication of a problem with the unit. The
diagnostic blinking will occur automatically with no action
required by you to engage it.

The timing of the blinking you see would be as follows: two to nine blinks, (depending on the fault), about
a third of a second apart, then a pause for 3 seconds, then the two to nine blinks about a third of a
second apart again.
Here is a list of the problems that might have occurred indicated by the number of blinks. The words in
parentheses are those, which you will see for each of these faults on a diagnosis screen described later in
this article.

• Unit is dead, No blinks - Problem in the standby power section. Might check fuse, R607, Q601, IC601,
R612 and VDR601 (should show open).
• Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted
to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective.
• One blink - not used for the self-diagnosis
• Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink
fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.
• Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink
fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
• Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal
muted. Check IC1509, Q1505
• Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then
goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and
other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK
blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
• Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately.
Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
• Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately
into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.

• Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code.
Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that
T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D
board.

• Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem
temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV
comes on and other times you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check
connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

• Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If
the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board.

Intermittent problems? This is a great feature. You can also bring up these fault codes on-screen to see a
list of the problem numbers with the abbreviation of the problem and the number of times this problem
has occurred. This is slightly different than entering the service mode. To see the diagnostic screen, press
the following buttons: Display, Channel, 5, volume Minus, ( not plus ) then Power. This brings up a screen
with a list of the problems and number of times they have occurred. Each of the problems named, are
abbreviated as, "OCP", "OVP", "V STOP", ETC. We have repeated them in parentheses in the text for the
"Blinks" described above so you can correlate between the diagnostic screen and the blink codes.

Now that you know about these self-diagnostics, how do you use them? Say that you have a set with a
black screen. You see that the LED is blinking four times. This would tell you that you have no vertical
sweep, which is why the video is muted. If it was blinking 6 times, you would know that you have a
horizontal fault. It's not a sure cure..

IMPORTANT: After you repair the unit, you MUST clear the values on this diagnostic
screen. These codes do not reset themselves after the fault is corrected, so if you don't clear
them, you'll be seeing "old" fault codes the next time you enter this screen. Clearing is done
by going into the service mode (display, channel, 5, volume plus, then power ). Press 8 and
Enter, which returns everything to the factory preset condition.

I have a Sony 57" WEGA CRT HDTV Model KDP57WS655. It displayed 9-blinking lights on the standby button and
would only turn on intermittently - sometimes it would turn on and others not when pressing the power button.

I followed the instructions to enter the diagnostic screen and the tv came on and displayed that it had (only) errors
(105) ZCD.

What is the problem and can I order parts and repair it mysself?

Maybe I should just leave the tv on all the time :o)))))

Many thanks!!

VR/Matt

I've got a KV-40xbr800 that flashes 7 times. I read that it's the mcz3001d and I've read that it's the electrolytic
caps. Which is it? If I unplug the tv for a day or so, it will turn back on.

Reply for 10 Blinks, HV PORT

I have not seen the wiring diagram of your TV KV-HX32, But in my case It was IC8002, It is a
driver/Oscillator Ic. Sony asked 300 dollars to fix my projection TV kp-fx432M91.I decided to
fix it myself on throw away basis, could not get much help for 10 blinks from Net.However, this
post gave me lot of hope and initative. Bought Service Manual from net then few parts and
finally above mentioned IC fixed the problem. Pls look for IC Part No. MCZ3001DB in D board,
You will find two IC of same part number but look for the IC driving Two FETs of High Voltage
Power supply section.
In most wiring diagram of Sony TV High Voltage Power Supply section components starts with
80--. as Q8013, Q8014, R8051 and IC 8002 are the essential components for HV section and
these must be checked/replaced.
These all components cost only 12 Dollars in Middle East and 30 Dollars in USA and Sony may
ask u minimum 250 dollars to fix 10 blinking problem. Pls do one thing search Service manual
of your TV on net and route the link to me.
Thanks Techlore.

Hi Rags,

I had same problem my TV. Replaced IC8002 on the 'D' board.

This is what we did:

1.Bought 2 x MCZ3001D from WES components in Ashfield Sydney Australia for $11.20
(each).
2.Friend had an 18 pin machine spun socket (not the crappy ones on EBAY).
3.Took back off TV
4.Put the 'D' board in service position
5.Noted which way IC8002 chip sat (Where position 1 is), also noted which 2 legs are not
soldered.
6.Cut the black plastic that was covering this chip underneath (where D board screws into) as
this is easier than removing the 'D' board.
7.De-soldered the IC8002 chip with a proper de-soldering iron. These are expensive though.

8.Soldered in the 18 pin socket.

9. Set the chip into the socket.
10.Tested TV, worked fine.
11. Put it all back together, plugged in Tivo, DVD etc etc etc and all bloody good stuff.
12. I now also have a spare MCZ3001D which is taped to the back of the TV for future
replacement, which is now easier since its now in a socket.

Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the
self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection
models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the
associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
does anyone have any idea how i do this?

I have another Sony Trinitron TV Model number KV-21R1D.If I press the power button ,the Red
light turns on for about 8 seconds, after that it off and , starts to blink for 6 times,.I have checked
the C515 and C516 and the jungle IC, IC206 on the board but I could not find them on the
electronic circuit board of the TV.Kindly tell me what to do about this ,or where exactly these
components are on the electronic circuit of this model of my TV,KV-21R1D.Or what exactly
should I do.

which these refer to?
I think my service manual download finally worked today. This is the issue I am trying to
resolve. THe part numbers given here do not match the manual. The IC 6505 does.

Hey Oranom,

Thanks for the advise and great instructions. it looks complex, therefore i will have to hire pro help. Someone
came, took a look and said the transformer, which would cost £250GBP. i can get a new samsung for £500, 40". all
this 18 pin socket is confussing. got any pics. How much do you think a pro should charge?? and how long a job??

thanking u in advance

even any Sony dealership/service centre knows about that as it is known issue to them. pls get this IC and ask some
electrician to soler it. Photo will not help much for location.Once u remove the D board, which is on yr left looking

I have a series of blinking codes appearing on my Sony Triniron screen. The picture is still working in the
background and the sound is not effected, it still funtions normally. One of the codes reads: 00898288 (EFE8),
another is: 00893328 (EEEE) Any idea what these codes mean?

Thanks,
