Haiti.

Haiti! How harsh be it still thy debt,

That ye once did dare throw down the yoke,
Of slavery 'tis aught they'll ne'er forget,
Nor forgive thy passion plainly spoke.

Haiti! 'Tis unto ye that we all owe,

Recognition. Thy liberté the first proudly won,
How bitterly hast thou paid many a day of woe,
Under a foreign occupant's watchful gun.

Haiti! Yours was truely the deserving example,

Inheritor of La Révolution Français,
Unto no other need thee feel thankful,
By thy own hand led out from a tyrant's maze.

Haiti! You were the spark that lit dishonour,

Many a vile seducer bled you dry,
Yet you show'd us all the brutal horror,
That below "an honest day's work" didst lie.

Haiti! Thy bravery, thy legacy,

'Twas buried beneath northern slander,
That deem'd thee unfit, a degeneracy,
Good for naught but sweat shop labour.

Haiti! Now the tables hath turn'd they not,

Rather tipped further against thee, so inclin'd,
From thy suffering, release hath thee not got,
Yet further against thee northern lights hath shin'd.

Haiti! Worry thee not! But look!

For thy banks be protected as be thy ports,
"Re" development ready! E'en before ye shook!
Chaos a controlled deception to clear away les morts.

Haiti! What awaits you? See thee not?

Financial opportunity! Others shout with glee!
Howe'er beware solidarité, lest it get thee shot!
Desolation! Poverty with or without dignity?
Haiti! Fret thee not! Démocratie yet remains,
Thy government hears thy hour of need,
All but the masses who voted disdain,
Where be he now? Thy fond Aristide?

Haiti! Lest we forget! You were sold,

For questioning the whip, you stood in thy own way,
Yet still in thy bossom thou art bold!
Whilst others exploit thy darkest day...
