During my years of employment | have been the primary overseer of submitting and managing large budgets in various ‘county agencies. Additionally, | have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgia Sheriff's Association Retirement Fund as well as a board member of the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes where my sponsibility includes the oversight and approval of all investment instruments to keep the Georgia Sheriff's pension fund and the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes financially strong. My primary passion for wanting to serve as a pension board member would be my years of insightful experience in providing effective financial implementation as well as interacting with financial planners, including the ability to manage as well as work with other board members to produce cost effective pension plans/proiects. Why you want to be a Pension Board Member: ! would like to be a member of the Pension Board because, | have a passion to help the people of DeKalb County in any way I can. | am very much interested in the financial aspects of the position, more specifically, how monies are spent and invested [believe the people should be well informed, and | will be diligent to get information to them. | have spent the past 30 years in the financial arena in Corporate America, in the capacity of Financial Specialist, Branch manager, Customer Service and as an Area Manager... STRICKLAND WHY I WANT TO BE A PENSION BOARD MEMBER ‘As a Human Resources Representative, my objective is to represent all County employees to ensure that their voices and concems are brought before the pension board; communicate pension board decisions and discussions to the employees; represent the best interest of employees regarding any pension plan changes; vote for money managers that provide the best investment returns; and, work to reduce or stabilize employee contributions to the pension plan, Thave a solid knowledge of all County operating departments and through my work in Human Resources have met virtually all current employees. I feel that my experience and connections with County employees and departments will prove valuable in networking and understanding the needs and desires of the employee body and complement my fiduciary to the plan when making sound investment decisions. STRICKLAND EXPERIENCE WITH DEKALB COUNTY DeKalb County Government, Decatur, GA (January 2002 ~ Present) Human Resources ~ HR Operations Specialist - I verify and process daily transactions within the Director’s Office when responding to various divisions, departments, vendors, and suppliers. I maintain the department’s budget with a thorough knowledge of the finance cycle dependencies. I track all department purchasing cards transactions, (Contracts) Professional Service Agreements, RFP’s, ITB’s and IFQ’s. I facilitate Employment Eligibility Verification/Basic Pilot Program (E-Verify) as the Program Administrator. I perform a full range of administrative, research, and analytical duties as a liaison of a variety of activities by tracking data. I collect and summarize information from managers for a variety of reports while make rational judgments to problems and analyzing situations for accurate information. I handled employment verifications over the phone and in writing. Provided quality customer service to multiple departments within the County. Human Resources ~ HRIS Division ~ I was the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) subject matter expert, this included receiving, reviewing, and processing all request in a timely manner. Once a month and quarterly, I ran standardized reports, and hoc reports (queries). I responded to special request for reports by running and creating Crystal/Excel reports as needed. I provided an electronic report of the County’s labor statistic to the Georgia Department of Labor and the FTE count to Risk Management. I also did research and updated/corrected information in PeopleSoft. Recorders Court ~ Calendar Clerk, Court Services Division ~ I prepared the calendars for all courtrooms by calculating the number of cases per courtroom and distributing that information to all parties involved. This process included looking up the violation code, the fine for the violation and attaching any data that included accident reports, supplemental reports, or subpoenas. I would update any information in the system by creating a new ‘one, combining the person records, and attaching any outstanding citations to the current citation.
