This table shows foreign investment inflows to India from 1990-1991 to 2008-2009 in terms of direct investment, portfolio investment, and total investment. Direct investment grew substantially from 1990-1991 to a peak of Rs. 138,276 crore in 2007-2008. Portfolio investment fluctuated more and turned negative in 2008-2009. Total foreign investment grew dramatically over the decades shown to a high of Rs. 248,017 crore in 2007-2008 before declining in 2008-2009.
